In general if her ears are healthy .DON"T . It is supposed to be there and if you are not careful you can injure her eardrum. Clean the outer ear with a cotton swab . leave the rest alone. This is generally true for adults as well. If there is a problem i agree with the ear drops that can dissolve wax. ( My 3 year old has had issues with her ears..hearing loss, tubes etc.) She has naturally small tube and since we had a lot of exams the Dr. were always pulling out wax so they could exam. i was given the drops to give before appt. but was NEVER told to put anything in her ear! Hope it helps.

Take your toddler to the family doctor who will prescribe an eardrop, which you will have to put about 3 to 5 drops in each ear for about a week. Then you go back to the doctor who will clean out the earwax with a strong jet of water from a large syringe. It is safe and painless.
I do not think you should try to clean out the wax yourself.

Whatever you do, don't stick a Q-tip in there. My pediatrician told me, the ear is self cleaning. The cerumen (ear wax) is there to protect the ear. if cerumen is produced in excess you might want to let your child's physician flush the ears. A wet washcloth should be all you need. (I do use Q-tips to clean my ears but I wouldn't dare put it in my child's ears....) A child's ear canal is a lot smaller than adult's.

most pharmacies sell an ear wax cleaning kit for problems that a q-tip won't solve.

use some baby oil and drop some drops into her ear. Wait a bit so the nasty stuff peels by itself then use a tissue to drain in out.
