You should probably get them out!
I used to get strep throat/tonsillitis at least twice every single year since I was 10! It was awful! Finally, at the age of 19, I was hospitalized for 3 days because I almost stopped breathing because I had developed abscesses and my throat was so swollen. After I got some IV antibiotics and the infection went away I was discharge. A week later I had my tonsils removed. It was one of the most painful recoveries I have ever had, but it was WELL worth it. I've have had them out for 2 years now and not once have I had strep throat or tonsillitis since then!
I would HIGHLY suggest you get them out. Even though it is painful it was definitely worth it (for me at least) in the end!

Tonsils are a necessary part of your lymphatic system. This is the other circulatory system in your body. It does not have a pump like your arterial circulatory system does. The lymphatic system is responsible for eliminating cancer cells, germs, old dead cells, etc. If you get infections in the body, the tonsils can get inflamed. When we are young, the tonsils are very active and as we age, the tonsils disappear naturally. The best way to deal with this problem is to fix your immune system.
The immune system is what fights the infections. If it is strong, the infections do not get a foot hold and cause the problems.
Unfortunately, the American diet, advice from the FDA, doctors, and even many nutritionists lead us down the path of not being healthy. So we end up at the pharmacy and at the mercy of the profit motivated drug companies that provide us with drugs that help the symptoms, but do not address the real solutions to the problems.
Winter does not cause the problem. Winter causes people to congregate more in heated buildings and come in closer contact allowing germs to be spread more easily.
There are some things you can do to help the problem if you do get tonsilitis, but you need to fix that immune system to keep from getting into that situation.
I used to get colds, flu, hayfever, and many other problems each year. I have not had any of these issues for over 4 years now and I fixed the problem by fixing my immune system. It does work.
good luck to you.

Has anyone suggested a tonsilectomy?
In the winter, you can try drinking hot lemon and honey and extra water. The liquid might help, and the vitamin C in the tea will give a boost to your immune system.
Good luck!

Have them removed, I had mine removed when I was 7, my doctor said he had never seen such badly scarred tonsils in his life. I don't generally have any problems with my throat in the winter.
