I'm based in Scotland and have placed fliers up in shops and the local college. Just looking for any other idea's that I may have missed. Thanks

We already have a few students and they have progressed through the basics and are well on their way. We have a myspace site that one of the students setup and maintain's. Its http://www.myspace.com/wolfpackkali

Word of mouth is working, think I just need to plug away with the fliers.

Thanks for the answers so far

Does your flyer mention that the kids will learn how to destroy their enemies with nunchucks and bo staffs?

Internet presence

The internet is the easiest way to capture those that are actively searching for your service. Your myspace page is a good start, but maybe you should put up a few more "action" pictures. Really, you will want a non-myspace website too. This will add a sense of legitimacy to your school. Also, make sure your site comes up on a google search.

Demos

When you are trying to grow as a group, you will need to design/plan/choreograph performances for exposure. Know your market. Spend most of your focus on events that will expose you to your target.

Networking

Make friends with other martial artists in your area. Maybe you could combine classes every now and then, or hold an event that would include a mix of martial arts. Get to know the martial art supply retailers around the city too. Post flyers in the stores & make sure to send them business back!

Keep your current students happy!

This will help you maintain your numbers while benefiting from FREE word of mouth advertising.

It depends on what you have on your fliers, are you teaching discipline or not, and are your showing how much a class will cost per time or for a certain period of time...hopefully discipline, because as a teacher, that is the only thing you should teach and then they will only use if necessary (self-defense), what type of martial arts are you teaching, so many different styles, possibility they might not be interested, but just starting up it will be hard to get going, just give it time, it will hopefully work out...another possibility is going online with a website or creating a myspace page for your area promoting it...just an idea

You could wear a ninja costume and go around beating a few people up - nothing drastic just a clip here and there.

Then you put the flyers up - you see it's all about supply and demand!

Just kidding, just keep up with those flyers, get a few students, treat them as well as you possibly can - word of mouth tends to be one of the most effective means of advertising.

Be aware that some students may not wish to have larger classes - so may not want to share with more students - so... let them know if you don't get more students, either prices go up or the class has to shut (I wouldn't do this until after you have at least a few students).

Good luck!

Show an Honorable view point
It's Children that need to be tutored now.
Show their parents how it will benefit their life, fighting is not always a benefit today.
Show an effective art as a complete art, that is
how to defend as a means of survival, that includes proper law application in all situations.
Alot of arts today teach wipe out as a means of fighting.
That is Wipe out your opponent.
I love how Royce never had to wipe out anyone, although I am SURE he could have been brutal.
That is why although I do not practice BJJ, I endorse it fully.

Colleges, students especially women students like having some kind of activity to do when not studying & your school could be a better alternative to joining a weight lifting gym & getting locked into a long term deal.

The Internet, and your local papers. Is your martial arts class Free? If not, why don't you offer 1 free lesson, and a discount on the next?

Do you already have a few students? A demo at a local shopping center seems to work well.

List your club in the yellow pages, advertise in your local newspaper, the internet (most martial art shopping sites e.g. 'Paragon, Karate-kid', have links to clubs in various areas, it's usually a free service), schools, your local community/leisure centre...

Best of luck!
