last week i used a diferent (and cheeper version) of my usual shampoo and conditioner. It has stripped my hair , and left it really dry, frizzy and knotty. I cant get a brush through it without real pain.i did not wash it for 4 days after after using the new shampoo and conditioner. My hair is not dyed or chemically treated in any way. I dont straighten it, but do occasionally blow dry.
I would really appreciate any ideas on how i can soften it again without using chemicals.
thank you .

chemicals aside from hair care products wouldn't help you anyway. You need to get a deep conditioning conditioner ASAP! I use Aussie 3 Minute Miracle. Also a leave in conditioner. Throw out that cheap stuff, and get your old brand back. No offense to anyone, but I hate shampoos like Sauve and V05. There are even some hair care products more expensive that Aussie that I don't like. Stick to products like Infusium, Pantene, and Aussie. Or buy products from a salon.

Warm some olive oil by putting it into a cup and placing into a bowl of hot water. Massage this through your hair and leave it on overnight (put an old towel over your pillow). Wash off using a shampoo for dry, frizzy hair and condition as usual. Use cool water for the final rinse.

Chemicals are a waste of money and in many cases has side effects So lets go see another way... massage your head with oil daily and leave it for an hour before you bathe When you apply your shampoo allow it to rest for a while before you wash it away .
Theres also another way but its gross anyways i know it works cause iv done it myself beat an egg into a bowl and apply it on your head for more than 15 min {try it for a week alteast }I know you might feel odd doing this but it has great effects towards making your hair real silky .Hope this helps you

Try to mix a spoon of lemon, a spoon of honey with olive oil (extra virgin 1st pressure best).
Sounds like salad dressing I know, but it is natural. The lemon smoothes the keratin (outer cover of the hair), the honey acts as cationic agent (like a vinyl polymer to renovate the protective film of the hair to prevent dehydration and drying) and oil, well it will nourish the hair and repair. Olive oil has been used in this manner in the Mediterranean, for hair treatment, and smoothing out any frizz.

Apply to the hair, wrap warm towel and leave for 15mn. Wash twice with your shampoo the "good" one.

Voila- hair restored to its original beauty, at no cost and all natural !!!

Unfortunately, the best way to resoften your hair is with some special goo. I find that Nutrisse has a hair "mask" that you smear in and let sit for three minutes, works like a charm.

Other than that, you might want to just let your current conditioner soak in longer.

Treating it carefully with specialized vitamin conditioner is a good way to go. Going to a respected salon helps. OR, you can pull a brittany spears ; )
