I had heard about the train, plying between Sealdah in Eastern India and some obscure place in North India, from my grandparents who reportedly travelled by that train in the mid fifties. The steam engine pulled train, reportedly, was high profile one with great speed. My grandparents were very nostalgic talking about journeys by that train in their youth.
I had searched for the train but none could tell anything. Sealdah Station now hosts no train by that nomenclature. I had also consulted INDIAN RAILWAYS published ‘Trains at a Glance’, but that too has no train by that name.
Anyone knowing about the route, timing and stoppages of the train; and its closure is welcome to share the information.

Upper India Express ran between Sealdah and Delhi via Sahibgunj Loop Line, and had frequent stoppages. Around 1999,it was short terminated at Varanasi and now runs as 3133/3134 Sealdah Varanasi Express and takes more than 25 hours to cover the distance.
I regret to spoil the nostalgic romanticism of your grandparents, but it is no longer a good train to travel.

It was never a good train to travel - I have seen it only at a station-crammed to capacity-everyone standing packed together. When it pulled in, no passengers got out, but one man attempted the seemingly impossible - to get in to the compartment in front of us. The passengers, including ladies, beat him with open hands to keep him out as it was jam-packed. A station coolie, who had obviously been paid previously, picked him up and slid him horizontally in the open door over the heads of the furious passengers, and threw his work tools after him when he slid down inside. I know it sounds untrue but it happened just as I said.
