I am looking to purchase a new car. The 2007 Camry is hight on my list, but I have been hearing rumors about bad transmissions.

Can anyone shed some light into this?

YES, THE CAMRY DOES HAVE FAULTY TRANSMISSIONS AND MANY OTHER PROBLEMS. Thats not the only problem, just go look at this link of evidence that I made of why Toyotas suck. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AplK5J9OWzsD9VzZlSOIXg7sy6IX?qid=20070301210328AAn8E5d It has a great alternative that has won more awards than the CAmry (and its not an Accord, Altima or a lame-*** Fusion)

The 2007 Camry has been awared the 2007 Motor Trend Car of the Year. I think that you should buy it. The 2007 Camry even has a Hybrid version, which gets very good fuel economy. It has a Continuously Variable Transmission, (CVT) and a 2.4 liter 4 cylinder engine. I think that it's a very good car. If you want a sporty design, get the Camry SE.

Smooth transmission, especially the automatic ones!
Toyota Camry 2007 really rocks! You should check out the features, options and owner opinions.
Here's a nice website about Toyota.

NOOOOOOOOOO

Look at the Altima and Accord. Much more fun, much better looking and just as reliable as the Camry (probably moreso from what I'm hearing). Plus Altimas and Accords aren't all driven by 70-year olds.

I think you should buy whatever makes you happy! I cannot imagine that Toyota would make a product and keep it on the market if there were inherent problems with it. There is always the option of a manual trans as well as the Honda Accord, which is a very nice car as well.

I have not heard of any tranny problems, but one thing is for sure. Toyota will stand behind their product and correct ANY problem...
QUICKLY. They are very protective of their reputation.

P.S. The sludging problem does not exist in Toyotas that have been properly maintained, and if you read the third paragraph of the article in the post above, it states that the problem is the result of NOT CHANGING OIL. PERIOD!

I own a Camry with 65000 miles on it, and the engine is as clean as it was new. The trans works perfect.

The Camry does have transmission problems. Go to Edmunds.com forums under Camry woes and you will see what owners are saying. Also, under yahoo autos, if you go to Camry and look at user reviews, you will see a bunch of unhappy people. And it has very poor crash test ratings. You may like a Fusion or Milan, both rated higher and more car for the money.

MANY transmission problems. just search it, or go to that forum like the one person said. The engines in them also blow up more often than you'd think...they have rod bearing problems. many people have put holes in their blocks from this.

Plan on the engine blowing up early and then Toyota will tell you its your fault.
