Moral science?

Isn't school one giant mental activity?

Schools serve to provide secular education. Parents serve to provide for the overall development of the child. If a child has no integrity it is not the school at fault.

Perhaps we should just take all the children at birth and put them in institutions, to be raised by the state. That way everyone knows who's responsible for the outcome.

Why are parents negligent? I don't leave my kids' moral teaching up to their schools. I take them to church, and model the behavior I want them to learn. Ideally, schools would, and some do include these things in their curriculum, but there are only so many hours in a school day. I would rather my kids learn reading, math, science, etc. while they are at school, rather than sit there listening to a counselor go on, and on about feelings, and diversity.

My child's school teaches responsibilty, character, respect, & caring. They even have school assemblies on these issues. They issue character coupons to reward the child for kind acts. They get to skip a homework assignment or a different reward, whatever the choice.Though some may not feel schools are not "responsible" to teach these things, children practice these morals at school on a social level. It's one thing to teach it and another to practice it. Schools NEED to oversee these things just like the government. Structure and rules HAVE to be reinforced somehow. Shoot, some parents don't even pratice what they preach! Thank Goodness For her School!

I DO think that the things taught in Elementary school should continue to be reinforced through High School. But , by then the kids should have a pretty good idea as to what is expected of them in school and in society.

I suppose education in an imperfect world is imperfect, as well and since it depends on some bureaucrats and politicians go figure out the reason for yourself! Perhaps, the most common reply you will get if you ask the responsible ones the same question is the fact that parents are responsible of providing moral education to their children and creating for them opportunities to develop their physical and mental capacities.

The problem with schools today is there is no focus on education. That's why when compared to other countries the us is at the bottom of the pack.

Too much time is being spent on physical and social activities. Moral issues should be taugh at home. American parents are to lazy to take responsibility for their own kids.

Sounds to me like you want the school district to raise your kid for you! Morals are to come from you. Do you really want your childs morals taught to him or her? That is an exampled behavior. Worry more about things like the districts pssa scores and their rank in your state as far as the education they provide, thats the stuff that counts.

i agree with some of the other answers. Parents need to take responsiblity back for their childrens learning. Schools can only teach so much. Parents need to teach also. Morales, Values, Manners. Parents need to stop thinking schools should teach everything.

because some schools are responsible for about 400-1000 students.
because some schools are underfunded.
because some schools are shortstaffed because they are underfunded
because some schools need to be more concerned about safety since parents are not disciplining their children
because their is not enough time in the school day to include those things

its the parents responsibility to teach their children moral science.
