You should go for memory foam. I bought one last year and couldn't ever imagine going back to a sprung mattress. Much more comfortable, good for posture and no springs.

go to a matress store and tell them what you told us "I don't want a mattress that after a year the springs can be felt, I want a hard matress". Then the people that work there should be able to point you in the right direction, and have you lie on some of the matresses.

Be sure to lie down on several mattresses. Seriously take all day if necessary. Most shops have assts who will point you in the right direction.. Try a memory foam or one with a built in memory foam topper.

Just changed from a water bed to one with pocket springs 1600 of them in a 6' x 6'6" bed that has a memory foam layer at the top.
You get what you pay for in beds and be careful not to buy a cheap one, that's what causes the trouble. Go to a good retailer and test the beds before you buy, We did just that. Don't 'prod' the bed, get on it and lie down for at least 10 minutes (the industry standard)

I wanted a hard mattress and made the mistake of getting a pillowtop. I now live with chronic back pain and the department store won't let me exchange it. I suggest you stay away from pillowtops.

you can buy a foam mattress - they come in different levels of firmness and apparently are just as good as normal mattresses.
