I have made some progress, but sometimes when we are out on a date in public, he forgets, and I have to remind him by handing him my lighter. He does not have a lighter since he is a nonsmoker. I want him to get ready to light my cigarette as soon as he sees me reaching for one.

I guess were a little spoiled and pampered now. hes your boyfriend, not your puppy dog. you cant train him and furthermore if you dont start showing him some respect you just may loose him. Im a smoker and really wish i could quit but. i would never expect my husband to be jonny on the spot with a lighter.
I guess since hes a nonsmoker you must really stink to him. your luckey that he is willing to put up with that.

Teach by example. Pull out his chair, help him with his coat, open doors for him. And of course, always be ready to light your other friends' cigarettes.

Just pet him behind his ear and ring with the bell. If that does not work try saying him "Sit" and "Give me a lighter"

he is a human being who im sure would appreciate your respect, he's not a dog who needs training.....either give up the cigarettes or stop seeing him so that he can find someone who truly respects him.
