I think the trick is to be in the right mindset for a tattoo, ive had one covered up because the "artist" did a bad job, but once i had it covered up, it was totally worth it.
As a general rule though, i think people who are really into body art dont regret it. Its the people who get one when their 18 years old and dont seem to realize that EVERYONE has a butterfly tattooed on their back.
I think if youre origional, you generally dont regret it. If i was one of the saps who get the same stupid tattoos as everyone else, i probably would regret it myself. ;)

I have 3 tattoos. I don't regret having them, but I do regret that my first 2 were both the "gee, I'm 18! Let's go get tattoos!" So they have no meaning and I didn't really find a good artist so the quality isn't the greatest. If I could go back in time I would still do them, I would just do them differently.

Not in the least. glad I did it, and would do it again if I were in the same situation.
I however do not like the look of too many tattoos. I go for the simple and more classy (can a tattoo be classy) look.
I did have some problems with the big one i have, the color didn't take all that well the first time and have to go back and have it touched up, but that's the worst of it.

I love tattoo's I have 8 myself, But I do regret getting my first one it was a spur of the moment thing and I didn't do enough research I just picked one from flash and had someone do it, its not the greatest tattoo I have and I am getting it covered up this summer you really need to research artists and find one that you like - make sure you like the tattoo's they have done tattoo's are for life choosing the right artist means everything.

I have one regret - not finding out what the symbol meant.
I said to myself years ago that if i still wanted a tattoo in 10 years i would get one (didnt want to do it on a whim) - i didnt know what i wanted but when i saw it in the tattoo studio i knew it was that one or nothing so i bit the bullet and got it done - since then i have been told by a number of people that the symbol means that i am bi-sexual - how true this is i dont know but it is enough to make me keep it covered - i am straight by the way lolol
at the start my friends thought this was a big a laugh but i thought "yeah you laugh its me that is stuck with it " - now i see the funny side but i still have a niggling regret but i still like the symbol and think it is really unusual

Ouch! Yes, because this morning I had my fourth laser session to remove the tattoo I had done when I was 18. Ouch! Ouch, the treatment hurts! I enjoyed having my tattoo when I was 18 but now, twenty years later, I'm finding that people are judging me more on the tattoo and the design - whilst very fashionable all those years ago - is now very dated. So the tattoo had to go. And it is going - it's expensive to remove and PAINFUL. Ouch and double ouch!
My advice - if you're going to have a tattoo think long and hard about the design. Anything that is very 'with-it' and fashionable will, in twenty years' time, look worn and old-fashioned and dated. And you're stuck with it.

i have 2 and plan on getting more they are where they can be covered up if needed and i dont regret them at all general rules to getting something you wont regret is fond something you like and wait like 6 months or so if you still like it then get it or put it somewhere you can see it everyday until you actually get it then if you havent lost interest get it. me i saw what i wanted looked around didnt see anything else that said pick me forever waited a while went back looked at it said ok i still have to have. two pick something that has meaning to you and that you will like forever since thats what they are there for. three dont let people talking about this means this and that means your gay wrong a tattoo has a meaning to you which you know dont let others trash your art.four you know its forever dont go in drunk or you will regret it go in sober relax and sit still. five include a tip for the artist above the quote price especially if you get large or time consuming detailed work done they will greatly appreciate it lastly if you want to do it do your research go professional theres less risk of infection. like i said i have two they arent trashy i dont look like a hooker i have a flower and butterfly sitting on one shoulder and a frog and moon on the other so get what you want

I chose wisely and I can honestly say, even though I am older now I still like my tattoos. But I highly recommend getting them somewhere concealable because you never know where life might lead you. Tattoos are no longer just a bikers art. Some very influential people are sporting the oldest form of body art. Think about it, don't make rash decisions and if you are under the age of 18 really, do not bother. How are you to decide before this age what you are going to want for yourself after your teenage indulgences are worn off?

I have 4 tattoos and out of those 4, I only regret 1 and that would be the one that I let my friend who was an apprentice do. It didn't turn out to well but I can always get it covered up. The other ones I am very proud of. They all mean something to me.

Well you are talking to someone who has 6 completed tattoos and one that is in progress. I do not regret any of them, the one in progress was actually just started on Sunday. All the tattoo's that I have are very meaningful to me. One is a pentacle, I am a Witch and it is the witches symbol. I have a purple rose on my shoulder representing my favorite flower and color. I have a tiger cub on my left shoulder I am a tiger by nature, I have the aquarius symbol on the back of my calf as I am an aquarius. I have a sun on my right calf which has many meanings to me. Then I have a Jack Skellington face on my thigh this one represents my sister in law it was her favorite movie and she died of brain cancer. The one in progress is on my lower back and is of 3 fairies and it represents me, my friend and my sister in law (the one that passed) she was also my best friend. I don't plan on getting any others but who knows what might change between now and then.
