This is complicated.
It'll depend what product and what illness.
About product: you must first find out what all things it has already been patented for. e.g. Viagra is used for ED but is also used for premature baby's lung maturation. SO there may be more than one patented uses.
Just because the company doea not mention it does not mean that patent does not exist. For e.g. lignocaine is used for local anesthesia but same compound is used for heart as xylocard.
Secondly- if your product cured something and you want it patented as a medicine, you are going to have a hell of a time proving it. One cure doth not a medicine make. You'll have to show standardised, double blind, case controlled trials for this and you obviously don't have it.
My Suggestion: Contact a drug firm which may agree to research the product further and give you profit share.
Last suggestion: It won't harm asking people about the compound coz it may be known to people in general, too. Then why waste time and effort :-)

As a person who has not manufactured the product, you cannot take out Letters Patent on the item. However, a correspondence with the manufacturer in wide terms, not detailing the illness you think is cured, might lead to a goodwill payment or perhaps some share of the profits, IF the cure is substantiated by the Medical Services watchdog in the country of sale, Bear in mind, placebos sometimes have the desired effect on some people.

no you can't, because it's been made by some company all the work has been done by them, the research, testing, marketing, manufacturing etc, they might sue you, the patent office most likely will not entertain you, using medication or drugs not for its intended use, or prescribed by a qualified person can be fatal
