Most of the scholarships listed have links to information from the sponsor. Click on the scholarship name to access the website for each. Canadian Merit Scholarships (CMSF) - Canadian Morehead Awards- Up to $12,000/yr, usable only at Dal, UNB , Mount Allison, Memorial, and University of Moncton in our area. 80% + average, well-rounded, leadership, extra-curricular/community involvement. Applications are at the Guidance Office. Deadline: Received in Halifax by October 25, 2005
Canada Trust Scholarships - Each scholarship includes full tuition, $5000.00 towards living expenses and a guaranteed offer of summer employment from TD Canada Trust. Outstanding community leadership in balance with academic success is required. Past recipients have generally been instrumental in starting programs and groups in their school or community that are of significant help to others. Applications are at the Guidance Office. Deadline: October 31, 2005
Burger King Scholarships - 1600 scholarships in the amount of $1000.00 given through US, Canada, and Puerto Rico. Criteria: Requires a 75+ average, community involvement, financial need, and you are working an average of 15 hours/week for 40 weeks a year. Requires recommendation from employer and school. Applications are at the Guidance Office or at http://www.bkscholars.scholarshipamerica.org Our school can only nominate one candidate . Wendy's Classic Achiever Scholarship Awards - 10 awards of $2000.00, 20 awards of $1000.00 and 180 awards of $500.00. Criteria: well-rounded, excellence in academics (70%+), leadership, extra-curricular/community involvement. Apply on-line. Deadline: December 29, 2005
Millennium Scholarships - Local awards: One-time awards of $4000.00. Provincial awards: $4000.00 renewable for up to three years. National Awards: $5000.00 renewable up to three additional years. Toyota/Earth Day Scholarships - 15 scholarships of $5,000.00 each (2 from Atlantic Canada). Selection Criteria: Excellence in academics and extracurricular activities and has demonstrated a commitment to the environment. Queens University Entrance Scholarship/Awards - Nomination from Inverness Academy is required. Eligible students must have submitted an admissions application to Queens. Terry Fox Humanitarian Award Program - Awarded to a student planning to attend a Canadian post secondary institution. The successful applicant should be dedicated to community service, humanitarianism, perseverance and courage in the face of obstacles and the pursuit of fitness and academics. $7000.00 per year for a maximum of four years. St. Thomas University - 2005 Harrison McCain Scholarship - $16,000.00 payable over a four year course study at St. Thomas. Criteria: 80% average after the first term of the senior year of high school, financial need, leadership qualities, and a recognized initiative on the applicant's part to fund his/her own education. Epilepsy Association of Nova Scotia (The EANS Memorial Scholarship/Bursary and The James Russell Kline Memorial Bursary) - $500.00 non renewable. Criteria: For persons under the care of a physician for the treatment of epilepsy, 18 years of age by August 1st, accepted for study at a recognized post secondary school and a resident of Nova Scotia. East Coast Credit Union Graduation Bursaries - Several awards are available for those students who have been members of the Credit Union for the past year. Nova Scotia Community College Entrance Award - NSCC is offering 26 entrance awards in the amount of $2500.00 Applicants must have been offered admission to a full time program at NSCC and have a 75% average in high school. Nova Scotia Fruit Growers Association Educational Bursary Program - One bursary in the amount of $500.00 to a student entering or already in a post secondary educational program in the field of: Tree Fruit Production, Biology, Chemistry, Food Science, Plant Science, Environmental Science, Business or Agri-Business. Trappers Association of Nova Scotia/Marion Sweet Memorial Bursary - One scholarship in the amount of $500.00. Eligible students must be furthering their studies in any institution of higher learning and a trapper or dependent of a trapper. Additional information is at the Guidance Office. Nova Scotia Power Scholarships - NSP is offering four $500.00 scholarships for students enrolling in a NSCC apprenticeship program in the following trades: power engineering, industrial instrumentation technician, electrical engineering technology, industrial mechanic, machinist, certified welder, industrial electrician, chemical technician, or utility line worker. Graham Pinsent Memorial Bursary - This $500.00 award is administered by the Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual Youth Project. This award is in memory of Graham Pinsent who was a member of the Youth Project who struggled to complete his education as a young gay student with serious health barriers. Bluenose Insurance Brokers - This $1000.00 award is open to any student who is a child of a customer of Bluenose Insurance Brokers and who plans to attend post secondary studies at either at a university or a diploma granting institution. J._Edouard-LeBlanc Scholarship (Assumption Life) - In order to be eligible for this $1000.00 scholarship, you must have at least a 75% average and enrolled in a college or university for September 2006. Monsanto Canada Inc. Opportunity Scholarship - Students from a family farm that plan to continue their studies in agricultural science or forestry are invited to apply for this award of $1500.00. James Bryson McLauchlan Scholarship - This $5,000.00 award will be issued to a graduating student from Cape Breton and is open to any program of study. Criteria: A 75% average in grades 11 and 12 and financial need. Required documents include a transcript, an activity sheet, two letters of reference and a financial form. NOTE: Although this scholarship is being administered by U.C.C.B., this award is open to students going to any university of their choice. Deadline: March 15, 2005
St. Francis Xavier - Harrison McCain Scholar/Bursary - $13,500.00 over four years. Criteria: A letter of recommendation is required from a teacher, principal or guidance counsellor, 80%+ average in the senior year of high school, financial need, leadership qualities, and a recognized initiative in funding their own education. Carol Anne Letheren Leadership & Sport Scholarship - This is a national, three year, $1500.00 per year, university scholarship. To be eligible, applicants must be female and applying to a Canadian university in Business, Sport Management, Marketing or a physical education related field. As well, applicants must the demonstrate the values that personify the Olympic movement, have a grade average of 85% in their final year and be an accomplished athlete in high school, community or provincial level competition. Anthony Johnstone Entrance Scholarship - This $6000.00 scholarship is awarded annually to a Nova Scotia high school graduate entering in the fall of the first year of a Bachelor's degree program at a university in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick or Prince Edward Island. This scholarship was established to help young people to educate themselves on human rights issues in Canada. Association of Teachers of Exceptional Children - Special Achievement Bursary - A $500.00 bursary is available to a student who has been diagnosed as having a learning pattern requiring special placement, remedial help or course adjustment. Nova Scotia Teacher's Credit Union Education Awards - Six awards of $1000.00 for graduates advancing to a degree granting institution. Nova Scotia Federation of Labour, CLC - Five bursaries for $1000.00 each to students who are going to attend university or trade school/community college. Each applicant must submit a 500 word essay on "The role of the labour movement in today's society". Cape Breton Island Chef's Association Scholarship - Open to students who are planning to pursue culinary arts. Nova Scotia Housing Authorities Student Award - Applicants must be persons who live in housing units administered by a Nova Scotia Housing Authority and in need of financial assistance to continue post secondary education in a university, community college, trade school or technical school . Several renewable awards of up to $1000.00 each are presented. Applications are at the Guidance Office. Deadline: May 1, 2004
Province House Credit Union/Rose Benteau Educational Awards - Two awards of $1000.00 each. Applicants must a member or son/daughter of a member of the Province House Credit Union. Awards are based on academic achievement and participation in school and community. A resume is required. Applications are at the Guidance Office. Deadline: May 10, 2004
Walter H. Johnson Jr. Scholarship for Tourism - Several awards are available for those pursuing a recognized tourism post-secondary program. Awards are based on academic achievement and participation in school and community. References, a resume, an essay and a portfolio are required. Applications are at the Guidance Office. The Cosmetology Association of Nova Scotia - Three awards are available for those entering a hairdressing or esthetics program in a registered private college or the NSCC program. Applications are at the Guidance Office. Deadline: May 15, 2004
One $1000.00 scholarship for an applicant with a relative who has held a license with the Cosmetology Association for 10+ years.
Two $500.00 scholarships for two students entering a hairdressing program.
Two $500.00 scholarships for two students entering an esthetics program.
Swiss Air Flight 111 Memorial Scholarship - One award of $1000.00 is available for each of Nova Scotia's eight school districts. Students must have demonstrated a commitment to "building bridges" between people of different races, religions and or cultures or who are otherwise particularly deserving of aid. Applicants must demonstrate evidence of financial need and possess qualities that may indicate future leadership potential. A resume and an essay are required. Applications are at the Guidance Office. Deadline: May 15, 2004
Enterprise Cape Breton Corporation Scholarship - One scholarship in the amount of $4000.00 will be awarded to a student in each of the four counties in Cape Breton. Awards are based on academic achievement (+80%) and participation in school and community. The student's family income must be $35,000.00 a year or less. Information is available at the Guidance Office. Deadline: May 21, 2004
Rudy Pace Memorial Prize (Jazz Studies) - Applicants must be residents of Cape Breton and plan to pursue a Jazz Studies program at St. F. X. Information is available at the Guidance Office. Deadline: May 31, 2004
