Do you think that Britain would be a better place if this happened?

It has been suggested on YA and other various places, that Britain's problems are mainly caused by Ethnic minorities, migrants and immigrants ( which i disagree with, Britain is suffering because its policies- thats my opinion)

So what do you think Britain would be like?

Britain would be a sad and boring place, with no diversity, and our cuisine would be less interesting! It would no longer be Great Britain

I hope they never leave, in fact I'd like to see more ethnic diversity and immigration...the more the better, and I know for a fact that everyone in Great Britain agrees with me...

As far as I ma concerned, there are no problems being caused by immigrants who come here fro work legally, or as asylum seekers...

I'm happy to have helped you with this answer, as these two points will push me over 2500 points for Level 4

Thanks

Philip

Firstly I don't think you should lump ethnic minorities, migrants and immigrants together. The way I understand it migrants are people leaving the country and immigrants are people entering. So migration could be part of the problem, although I think the relatively small number of people leaving the country probably doesn't make that much difference. Legal immigrants should certainly be welcomed, because they make a useful contribution to society. Ethnic minorities - well, it depends how you define them. All of us could be considered as belonging to an ethnic minority. These days the term is usually used to mean Asians and particularly Muslims though. So I'll answer in that context. I think there is a lot of jealousy in this country towards Asians, because they tend to be able to build successful businesses from practically nothing, and are very good at turning adversity into success. So they certainly are a benefit to British society. The far right tends to pick on them mainly for this reason. They see their relative success compared to other sections of the population and it worries them. More recent reasons such as Islamic extremism and terrorism, just gives them an additional excuse.

Also, I'm not so sure about the suggestion that "Britain is Suffering" Is Britain suffering any more than it has done in the recent past? I don't think so. The country certainly has its problems which need to be addressed, as does practically every other country, but I think Britain is actually better off now than it has been at any time since the 1960s. All the whingers who think Britain is some kind of disaster area at the moment should have a serious look at Britain's history since World War 2, and see how much things have improved since then.

Let's face it - Britain would not be where it is if there were no hardworking immigrants. There has to be a reason why people want to come here, and that is because they can survive easily, with or without skills, legally or illegally.

The problems are not from the immigrants who come here and contribute, but those who come here and just take.

I am not originally from this country, I work hard and pay ALOT of tax and I want to leave the country now because it is no longer the nice place that it was.

What this country needs is a HARD government that takes a HARD LINE on people who make this place unpleasant, either because they break the law, or sponge off the welfare system.

London is an expensive city that is no longer nice to live in because it attracts all sorts of scumbags since they can thrive in this society and live a better life than they would at home, because the society lets them get away with the things they do.

So I agree with you, it's a result of weak policies, and this is because culturally there is no planning. Things just evolve into a mess and it's hard to do anything about it, except make a choice to leave, which is my plan. It's a pity because it has been home for over 30 years, but I shall leave without regrets.

No I don't think Britain would be a better place without the minorities, migrants and immigrants but on the other hand I do not think these people should be entitled to any welfare benefits along with the people of Britain who have never worked or contributed to the system.
Britain as someone above states would only have ourselves to blame for the mess

Firstly you need to define the terms of your question:

Ethnic Minority - Does this include those that appear 'local' such as Irish, French, Polish, etc.

Migrant - How long must you be in the country to no longer be classed as a migrant. 10 yrs, 100yrs, 1000yrs ...

The Queen is German and Prince Philip is Greak.
So that is the Royal family deported.

My Opinion, Immigration is a good thing as long as it is controlled and the rules enforced. If you are judged to be illegal then you should be removed. Else, you have De Facto open boarders which leads to fear and tension within the country.

No, ethnic cleansing has been tried in other countries and it doesn't benefit the culture or economy.
Its fascistic and thats bad in the long term for the entire population. Eventually the same strategy is always applied to the people left - because the problems don't go away with the hated group. So there must be more people to cleanse. Plus a group that feels united in their hate needs new scapegoats once the old ones are gone, to preserve the feeling of unity and to keep loyalty.

Its better to tackle the problems than blame them on any group.

Well considering we are all the sons and daughters of immigrants the place would be empty for starters!!

With respect your question is a little confused, it is the policies that have led to the increase in people within the country.

I take it you are referring to the recent influx?

Estimates range from 2 Million to 10 Million extra in the last decade, depending on if you choose official recorded movement only. Or whether you take on board legal movement that does not require registration(it is a voluntary scheme) and any attempt to guess at the levels of illegal immigration, the only area of which can be measured is people who overstay their visas.

Then you have the centres full to overflowing with those 'awaiting processing' from failed to applying (not yet part of the population but still we need to care for them)

To house, educate and integrate large numbers of people is extremely difficult.

Look in the other direction for a moment why do we so often hear about British ex-pat communities in France, Spain, Australia, USA etc.? Simply because it is difficult to integrate without good knowledge of local customs and language. Also we are creatures of habit and we miss our favouite beer, or sport or music. So we get together in groups we share things in common with(it is also in part about feeling more secure in numbers)

The issue is not the people, the issue is the lack of co-ordination and a silly approach to the idea of free market economics.

Thanks to technology in our world today humankind has never been able to get around so fast.

To answer your question about what do I think Britian would be like? The Khalahari bush tribes. The vast majority of 'British' inventors were of immigrant stock.

I speak as an Englishman who is 'proud' to be English and British I hope for the right reasons.

We are a race of mongrels and that is what gives us our strenghts. Pure breeds only come from interbreeding and soon die out.

We just need to be sensible and have a proper immigration policy and resources to enforce it.

The BNP won't get potential, they are like the neo-nazis interior the U. S. and that's somewhat obtrusive they gained't get any actual potential the two. overlook approximately them. it variety of sounds like they have extra potential than they do, yet to be completely elementary they are in simple terms a gaggle of loud-mouthed-cavemen that don't fairly look to have a actual carry close on certainty. And from what i've got seen of britain besides, that's approximately 50/50 the ethnic and english inhabitants... do no longer make a mountain out of a mole-hill, bypass out and meet some good citizens and you gets the actual english thought of the BNP. England and its voters do no longer help them, lots of the voters think of of it as a humorous tale actually.

No. However, immigration should be severly curtailed. Britain can not afford to provide social services for large #s of immigrants who are not citizens and do not pay taxes. Immigration is not wrong, but at this point Britain's government is crap and the budget is crap. Immigrants aren't the sole problem but they are definitely part of the larger issue.

A poorer place. The NHS would grind to a holt for a start.
However, I do think that the UK needs is to only allow immigration for people who have something to offer like the Australian system.
Immigrants should have to learn the language and live by our rules (free to conduct their own religions, choices etc as long as they do not break UK laws) as we would have to in other countries. If you break a UK law it should be deportation. End of!!
I am not a racist by the way - my mum was an immigrant, speaks English and works hard.
