Acetic acid (vinegar) is one of the biproducts when aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid) breaks down.

Vinegar is very acidic, which gives it its distinctive smell. Aspirin is also very acidic, thus the similarity.

what are you looking for? Why it smells like vinegar? I've never experienced it because I tend to toss any unused meds on or just before the exp date... if its not already empty

Acetic anhydride vinegar(acetic acid),acetanilide,acetamenophen are chemically similar with acetyl group. They smell similar

throw it out and don't use it! some meds can turn to cyanide, after time making them very poisonous
