Yes and no answers in Welsh depend on the question.eg
Is this it?..yes(it is)..no(it is n't)
Hwn ydi o?...Ia...Na.
Are you hot?...yes(I am)...no (I'm not)
Wyt ti'n boeth?...ydw....nac ydw.
Is he hot?..yes(he is)...no (he isn't)
Ydi o'n boeth..ydi...nac ydi.
Have you got a dog?..yes(I have)..no (I haven't)
Oes gen ti gi?...Oes....nac oes.
There are other examples but you get the idea..there is more than one word for yes/no..use the wrong one and it sounds silly. This would be true in English if someone was to answer a question like this:
Do you like the soup?...yes she is.
Is he here?...yes I do.

Yes. There are several ways of saying "yes" in Welsh and this means "I am" or "I am not" in response to the question: "Are you....?"

I note that another answerer is saying categorically that the way to say "Yes" and "no" in Welsh is by using "oes" and "na". You are only able to do that in reponse to a form of question using the appropriate format. The whole thing is highly complex.
