I don't think that there is any quick cure of giving up smoking. It takes over us all and leaves us dependant.

For 2 years i constantly gave up smoking - it became a hobbie and a joke to all my friends. I tried many things from inhalators to gum which left my mouth in a horrible state. Each of the products worked on the short term whilst i took them although i was still dependant on nicotine. After taking each product i began smoking.

Saying this, i do know of people that have taken the products have successfully given up so it depends on what the individual person finds easiest.

I gave up smoking 8 months ago, and this is how i did it. I decided that i wanted to give up. I quit smoking but didnt tell anybody about it. As i didnt tell anyone, i had noone joking that i couldnt. Suprisingly enough it took 1 week for the first person to notice that i hadnt been smoking - and i have a partner! I threw away all ashtrays, lighters and trace of smokings.

I then cleaned all of my clothes, including the ones in my wardrobe - they smelt so nice!

I then stayed clear of any situations that made me want to smoke for the first month - Coffee with my friends in the day, cig breaks at work, going out into bars at night.

After the first month, i had got through the worst of the problem and took it day by day.

Some tips - In the beggining lots of lollpops, keeps your hand and mouth busy. In the later stages everytime i wanted a cig i had a glass of water. Sounds strange, but works.

I cant sound all good, i must admit that one night i went out and i had half a ciggerette. That still made me happy though - i went from 20 cigs a day to half of one in 8 months. My prouder moment being that i didnt continue to smoke that night or the next day. (It tasted horrible and had a lingering smell on my hand - weird).

I welcome you to try what i did but as i said earlier i think that everyone needs different things and ideas to quit smoking.

I hope this helps. And the strangest thing, you will realise after a few months of quiting smoking just how much smokers smell. It is really horrible.

I wish you the best of luck, its not easy, cravings are difficult but in the longrun you will feel healthier and the achivement is fantastic. Please give it a go.

I haven't used zyban but my father-in law did, he's in the 50's a had really bad chest pains and the hospital though he had maybe took a heart attack, fortunately he was fine, he came of the tablets and has never had anything like that again!
I myself tried laser therapy in may 2005 and stopped smoking for 12 months, i started again when i was under alot of stress, but I am going for the therapy again because after a few days i didn't even want a cigarette and the cravings weren't nearly as bad as what they were when i done it cold turkey! I think i paid £100 but it was well worth it because i was smoking 20 cigs a day (£35 a week) Good luck and i hope you manage to stop!

I started taking it about 10 days before my "stop date"
It helped a lot, I cant remember having side effects at all. Like you I have no will power and started smoking again after 2 months but of all the things I have tried I think it worked best. I can give up using patches or gum easily for the first few days but then I get soooo depressed I cant even go to work but I didnt get that emotional low with Zyban.
Good Luck!

My partner used Zyban. He found it much easier to give up smoking than he had thought as the craving was definately decreased nor did he suffer any side effects. Unfortunately, he ran out of Zyban, refused to get any more and has now started again although only about half the amount he used to smoke.
Oh well, back to the drawing board!

Hello...

Well first of all Good Luck. Dont know too much about Zyban but I use Nicorette Nasal Spray. I didnt like patches or gum but I find the spray really works. Its not the most pleasant feeling at first but it really kills that urge to smoke. Its been two months now after 20+ years on 20/day. Its not been painful at all and I'm gradually cutting down on spray. Its a bit expensive at £20 per bottle you will probably use one a week at first, but now I just have one in my pocket for those difficult times.
I also promised God never to smoke again if He helped me get my finances straight..He did so I cant break my promise.
Good Luck again.

i have taken zyban twice as well as trying patches, inhalers, hypnotherapy etc etc... the first time on zyban it was easy to give up but stupidly i had a cig 2 months later and that was me rehooked. that time was definately my best attempt though as usually id do the usual tricks like lighting my friends etc whilst telling myself id given up.

i felt very jittery on zyban though, the 2nd time i took it the side effects were so bad i had to stop, my heart raced, hands shaky and just felt very weird, and detached. i wouldnt take it again because of my last reaction to it. it does remove the craving though and it doesnt so much make cigs taste horrid but just takes away that hit you get at the back of your throat when you inhale, so its like youve smoked twenty all at once.

the very best of luck as i want to quit for july 1st also, i will be going back to patches and using the sublingual tabs for really bad moments, all the products say only use one thing but stop smoking groups will prescribe and advocate using a combination of products. this method seems ok for me when my will power is strong.

A newer drug called Champix (varenicline) on prescription UK
helped me to stop, eases craving and makes cigs taste repulsive,
tests indicate 5 times more successful than Zyban, check out on websearch, you`re only 27 try and stop now, if you continue to smoke you will get COPD a severe respiratory disease( cannot be avoided by smokers,) good luck.
