I have several uncles and cousins who got help through The Stuttering Foundation and their book "Self Therapy for the Stutterer" and one uncle went to a specialist that he found through the Foundation while using the book at the same time. They said that it takes determination and following the steps in the book, sometimes going through them again, but all of them overcame their stuttering.

When I was on a mission for my church, I had a companion that stuttered horribly when talking/meeting people for the first time. As he continued his service, he became accustomed to talking to perfect strangers and his stuttering greatly decreased to just happening every great once in a while. I think as you conquer any inhibition of talking to people and just tackle it (maybe get a job working in customer service or something) you will find that it will go away and perhaps even completely! Good luck, my friend. God gives us all weaknesses that we may be humble. But we are promised they can be turned to strengths!

This may sound completely crazy, but have you tried singing? There was a country singer that had serious stammering issues, but instead of talking, her mother told her to sing what she wanted...it may sound really dorky, but not only did it stop her stuttering, it jumpstarted her career! Speech class may help as well...other than that, you will just have to school yourself to be less nervous about people and certain situations. Mind over matter, you know? Good luck!

wow I'm shocked your uncle the "pshychologist" would tell you that once you hit 21 all will be well. I'm not a doctor and I can tell you... not true!
Speech therapy, and if you've stuttered for a long time, I'm surprised that it hasnt' been made an option for you before.

This sounds like an anxiety problem more than anything else. Have a psychologist that is not related to you spend some time with you.

Yes there is help. I know a guy that stutters. when he sings,
he doesn't. Mel Tillis also doesn't when he sings. but this doesn't solve the problem. check with you're local social service and see if you can find a support group. They can help you.
Good luck.

Try deliberately slowing your speech; if that fails, see a speech therapist. See http://www.webmd.com and enter "stuttering" in the bar provided. Multiple answers.
