Use your finger to massage whisky, or a similar spirit, into the gum. The massage helps the gums, and the alcohol cleanses it - and makes the experience more pleasurable.
Just don't get too carried away....... !

if you have access to Cloves, probably on your spice rack, it has a numbing affect when put directly on a sore tooth. It acts very much like a local anaesthetic. The whole loves work best. That may give you immediate relief, I've never tried it with just sore gums, but it definitely works if you have an exposed root as in a cavity. The next thing you should do is get a tube of "Sensidine" tooth paste and use it regularly. at least twice a day. It is made for dealing with sensitive gums.

baby orajel is about the best of the jells on the market that I have found (and I have used them all over the years)...but if your gum is sore because of an infection.... there is not much over the counter medicine or herbal remedies will do but maybe buy you a little time before you have to go to a doctor and get an antibiotic........right now I am on medicine for an infected wisdom tooth....I went to a MD ....it would have took me forever to get into see a dentist ...so I went to a regular family doctor and he prescribed medication for it....if your gum doesn't get better in a couple of days or gets worse...go to a doctor or the ER...they will take care of you....
another home remedy that helps me...is to take an aspirin and put it directly on the area or the side of the gum that is hurting and letting is dissolve there ...it might take a couple of aspirins but you will feel an improvement afterwards....I have gotten many thumbs down on these boards over this suggestion ...and truly I don't know why...because it really does help....
I hope your gum gets better.......

Orajel is another product you can try. As for the dentists if this is a sign of an infection (meaning if the pain gets worse) let them know that you are having a lot of pain and really need to be seen. If insurance is an issue check to see if your city's health dept offers free dental clinics, if not check to see if there are any dental schools close by that can be of help.

I suffer with tooth abscess all the time. Use boiled water as hot as your gums can stand pour generous amount of salt in let dissolve then rinse out mouth holding each mouthful for about 30 seconds. Do this few times a day and if you eat sugary things rinse again immediately after.

Clove Oil. You can buy it from the chemist in a little glass bottle, Put some on a cotton bud and hold it where it hurts. It tastes absolutely disgusting, but better than being in pain. Its only a temporary measure though, so get to a dentist a.s.a.p!

Rinse your mouth with salt water regularly to help kill off bacteria/infection. You really should get a dentist. Many are not taking on NHS patients but they will take you on if you are prepared to pay for treatment. It's worth it in the long run.

Bonjela is good I get mouth ulcers quite often and it takes the soreness out long enough for you to have something to eat and helps it heal quicker. Its a gel in a dark blue tube/ box.
