As far back as I can remember I had a hard time remebering pretty much everything whether it be what I just read to even what I ate yesterday certain things seem to stick in my head real well while others dont at all. Even happens with peoples names I may see them every day but I still wont remember there name ill recognize them but really nothing else. I want to go to college but I am afraid that I will just fail because none of it will stick in my head. I was always really bad in high school pretty much crammed my *** off just so that I could get a c or a d on a test. I was diagnosed with ADD a long time ago and have always been on medication even that doesn't help me much I can remember things when it comes to things that are hands on like computers, video games, and even movies but if I read a page in a book by the time i get to the next page the page before it is already forgotten even if I read it over and over again none of it sticks I wont even remember this after I'm done.

As far as the medication goes I have tried quite a few the one thing I wasn't able to fit in was that I have an anxiety disorder as well that causes me to have panic attacks the medication that I am on now takes care of that and helps me to concentrate some but I am maxed on the amount I can take and it doesn't help with my memory I haven't always taken medicine for the ADD so I do know that that isn't the cause of it although I am in general very depressed all of the time but I wouldn't say I am stressed out alot although I can be I have been depressed for alot of years and I have tried medications for that but those just give me panic attacks that are not only worse then when I am not on any meds but more frequently even when there isn't much reason to have one I'm just not sure what to do about any of it it seems like every time one thing gets better everything else gets ten times worse I am just lucky that I found a wife that understands and a job that I can do quite well I guess.

Dear Drake,

Since you said you have had a diagnosis of ADD and are on medications this would probably explain your inability to remember some things. But you did say your can retain things that are "hands on" so it is not a question of intelligence. I would recommend sticking with those tasks you can retain well, that you have an avid interest in, as a career instead of pursuing a college career. There is a lot of book work in college.

If you want to know more about your condition, Type, "Attention deficit Disorder" in Yahoo! search and a number of links will come up. Most of the treatment is medication but there are a number of alternative treatments. Type "attention Deficit Disorder/treatment" into Yahoo! search to find some of these.

I hope you remember you asked this question and come back to read the responses. Good Luck, Peace and Love.

I'm not a doctor, but that really sounds like something medical is going on. Have you seen a doctor about it? There are medications that can hurt your memory, also stress and depression can reduce memory functions. It sounds like your medication may not be the best one, there are several kinds for ADD. If your doctor doesn't listen, find another one who will. I hope you find something that helps.
