I was on a highway driving at about 60km/h behind a green Kancil. suddenly a taxi overtook him in order to go over the overhead bridge therefore the Kancil in front of me engaged a emergency break and i couldnt break in time and thus hit his bumper. there werent any damage on my front bumper but the other driver's bumper was abit loose and the car plate broked. Well, i offered to pay him RM 50, but he said it was too lilttle and he started threatened me that he will report to the police and they might summon me or take my liscense yadda yadda.I thought it wasnt a big deal offered so i didnt inform my father and i him Rm 80 instead and he accepted it. And before he left, he looked twice at my car plate number and wrote it down(i think he's up to something). After that only i realised i was so dumb for not takin g down any information and wasted my Rm 80. So i would like to know what should i have done and what's the worse that might happened to me if he reports to the police?

I don't know what RM 50 or RM 80... I assume it is money. So you gave him $80.

I don't think there is much he can do. If watching Judge Judy has taught me anything it is this:

First. it was your fault. You were are responsible be driving far enough behind and watching so that if at any moment he breaks you won't hit him. So you hitting him. You fault.

2. Nobody called the police which you have to do, but there isn't much you can do about that now. Calling them know isn't going to do much but hurt you maybe.

3. He has no case if he calls the police. He took money from you so he is saying "This is all I want for damages", he can not turn around now and say he wants more, if he wanted to do that, he should of call the police at the scene. Since he didn't and took the money he gave up his legal right to sue you for anything more. Basically he said "This is all I ever want for damages and you are free of any more responsibility to pay anything more." So you two are square. Settled. finished.

4. If he called the police now, since they weren't on the scene he has no case because the police weren't called when it happened. So it is your word against his. No case. Nothing to stand on.

He took what you gave him (even if you shouldn't of done it) so there is much he can do now.

That is what I think.

If this guy goes to the police he could accuse you of hit and run. Big trouble. Even though you did not get any info from hit get out in front of the situation by going to the police and file an honest report. If he never does, you may get lucky and that will be the end of it. Gerald

You call the police and explain what happened. Plus have your information ready for the officer. As in your driver L.'s, reg., and insure., and go from there. But running from that can catch up with you and you will even have bigger problems with the law.

if he does contact police or whoever then as long as your father is witness to you paying him for the damage then its his word against yours also you could contact the police and tell them what has happened they will be able to tell you if he has logged a complaint etc just by your car reg just tell the police he has scared you a bit and your a bit concerned as you didnt get a reciept for the payment

first you try to do right, now , you need to call the law,2th you need his name , add, an inc comp, then you , need you settle down,,,,, now he can ,an most like call, an turn it in , you was a hit an then ran,,,,, if this be the case, you going to get a titict, for leaveing the seane.,, an then maybe, one for, hitting ,him,,, but rember the law will listion ,to you both, but odd are, if you did not get ,the inc an his name, they going to belive the one that call first,,,
