Overall I believe that "Shogun" should definitely be considered a favorite in this match. In my opinion Mauricio is the best and most complete light heavyweight MMA fighter in the world at this moment and he would, without question, have the ability to take Chuck out if they were to have a match some time soon.
When making a comparison of these two fighters I can see their striking skills as more less even, but Mauricio just seems to be light years ahead of Chuck in almost every other aspect of MMA. He is faster, more explosive, technically and conditionally superior, able to set an incredibly high pace in every fight, his jiu jitsu skills and general ground game are incomparably better and he's also like 13 years younger then Chuck.
Finally there is one more very important thing I need to point out which also goes in "Shogun's" favor. I have a feeling this will be very unpopular among hardcore UFC only fans, but I'll say it anyway. Everyone here knows how incredible Chuck's striking is, am I correct? But in my opinion what really made it so incredible in UFC is fighting grapplers and wrestlers, whose kick boxing ability was basically almost non existing. I've seen Chuck come up against men with, well decent striking skills only twice in his career. Once against Alistar Overeem and once against Quinton Jackson. He defeated Overeem but he was in serious problems in that match. Alistar cut him badly at the start and was dominating the match, but at one point he got careless and walked into one of those looping right hands which cost him the fight soon after. And we all know what happened to Chuck against Jackson. "Rampage" did finish it on the floor but he was dominating Chuck in stand up almost the entire fight. Anyway, what I'm trying to say here is, when Chuck comes across a good striker, most importantly someone who knows how protect him self standing up, in my opinion he'll be lost, just like he was against "Rampage". And "Shogun" is a man who, most definitely, knows how to do that. His striking is excellent, defensively and offensively and he would surely be able to hold his ground standing up in this fight, and if it went on the floor, it's clear what would happen.
So once again, in my opinion Mauricio would be a definite favorite in this match, and if it does somehow take place soon, my money is on him.
addition
Just one more thing: "...as of right now I would have to say Chuck Liddell only because he's fought for high profile matches..."
Scorpion you can not be serious about this statement man. I mean, maybe I'm missing something here, but - Quinton "Rampage" Jackson, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, Alistar Overeem twice, Ricardo Arona, Kevin Randelman, Kazuhiro Nakamura....... and so on - I'm really not sure how it could possibly get higher profile then this.

D@mn good question!! As of right now I would have to say Chuck Liddell only because he's fought for high profile matches although Rua is a former Middleweight Grand Prix winner and now that he has Wanderlei's blessing to pursue Dan Henderson for the Middleweight title, which I feel Rua could win. I would hope to see a Rua/Henderson fight for that title by autumn of this year. Now Shogun Rua has a chance to be the main guy out of the Chute Boxe Academy with Wanderlei Silva saying he's going to take time off to reflect; which usually means possible retirement even though he's only 30 & has said in the past he would like to fight up till the age of 36 but 2 back to back KO losses will make a person think that way regardless or just change in venue but UFC is unlikely cause Dana White now views him as damaged goods and in his won words," The mestique is now gone".

I think Liddell wins, but Rua could win too. It would be a good match up, ultimately I think Liddell punches harder and is strong enough and experienced enough to avoid Rua's clinch, knees, and ground game. But Rua is a young guy compared to Liddell
