I thought challenging ones ideas was one of the things that made America a great country? Are we not allowed to do this anymore?

Roque is right I shouldn't generalize.

Let me rephrase the second part of my question.

Are some / most insecure about their belief.

To be open and honest about it, I feel myself getting angry when the question is asked in a way that implies or states outright that I lack both intelligence and rationality. There are a great many questions and responses that attack the Christian rather than present alternate ideas. I'm beginning to suspect that the concept of exchanging ideas without attacking the other person is foreign to many who disagree with the Christian.

This is the 20th time I've seen this question, christians ask it about athiests, athiests ask it about christians.

Stop generalising. Why do you care so much, anyway? That's just spiteful.

Christians get upset for the same reasons anyone else gets upset, because it's rude, for one thing, to challenge other people's beliefs.

Sometimes they don't know the answer, but they know that there is one. They know that if they don't have the answer memorised in their heads, you're going to take it as if you've won the argument and therefore you deem to them that their god doesn't exist because they don't have the entire bible memorised.

Stop bothering them.. Only bother those who bother you.

***Addition***

Don't confuse challenging ones ideas with freedom of religion. And when you say challenging ONES ideas, you mean challenging your own, if that isn't what you mean, you need to brush up on your grammar, there, smarty pants.

"valid question that deserves an objective answer?"

Validity is a property of science not of religion. A question regarding Christianity does not have objective answers, but biblical answers.

You except logical argument from belief. In other words, you are applying the scientific method to a revelation. A misuse of both.

Speaking as a former Christian, it has been my experience that Christians are insecure about their beliefs because they want answers but instead are asked to have faith. Many Christians would trade in faith for knowledge in a heartbeat and who would blame them? Many Christians attempt to exchange their faith with knowledge they know deep down doesn't exist. They draw these conclusions in order to address their anxiety about the unknown all the while weakening their faith. It's easy to find these Christians because they will quickly tell you that they "know" God this and Jesus that. Insecurities arise when challenged because deep down they know they don't know.

My advice to Christians is to recommit to your faith and understand that your religion may not yield all of the answers you need to address your anxieties.

man i dont know but it pisses me off too, i pretty much gave up trying to reason with christians, any time id come on here and make a perfectly good argument 90% of the responses id get would be like "you're stupid youre going to hell" some less harsh than others but pretty much of that context
thing is that a lot of the christians you meet today aren't knowledgeble enough in their own faith to back it up, so when you ask a question that they can't answer they get angry because they dont know their own faith, I can honestly say that while I am an atheist i know much more about christianity than the average christian

I don't mind valid questions, or even challenging ones. They are part of a healthy life.

What ticks me off is verbal abuse and snottiness. I've recieved a lot of that from athiests, who think that Christians are nothing more than verbal punching bags. Abuse disguised as a question is still abuse.

I'm really angry about this question!

The real answer is we have lots of nasty people on Yahoo answers, and atleast some of them identify themselves as Christian.

And yes, they are insecure about their beliefs.

Well why don't you tell us the question that made them angry genius? is someone worried about burning in Hell?

the answer you ask presupposes the answer you want to hear...if you want an objective answer stop forcing your subjective belief that Christians are insecure into the question!
