Rissoles (in Newcastle) were mashed potato mixed with corned beef, made into little rounds, coated in flour and shallow fried until golden brown then served with beetroot. I loved them when I was a kid.

I make the yummiest rissoles!

Get 500grm mince (preferably the heart smart one)
1 packet of French Onion Soup Mix
1 cup shredded cheese
1 egg
1/2 cup of diced bacon (only optional).

Mix all together and cook!

Guarantee'd to be extremely well received!

In our household my mother used to make and still does make them. They are meatballs.

Mix of beef and pork mince
1 egg, lightly beaten
S and P
Breadcrumbs
Mixed herbs of your choice - dried is best in this case
Bran or pinwheel oats to coat.

Make meatballs to the size of your choice and then coat them in the bran or oats. Fry gently until cooked through and nicely browned on all sides.

She also made Rassoles (with an A) which was a herring - look up the recipe Latvian Herring Salad or something to do with herrings and Latvian on the website of for Orkney Herrings - sorry, no more time left to search and my library comp is playing up.

Beat an egg with some salt and pepper, add some chopped onion. Mix with beef mince. Roll into large balls and slightly flatten. Cover in breadcrumbs and shallow fry.

Yummo!

They feature in the movie 'The Castle'.

I always thought they were just homemade burgers...?

Sorry if this isn't much help, but I'm pretty sure that's what they were!
