most tattoo artists are really good at shaving. mine just uses a cheapy razor with some green soap but it's always worked fine on my husband. you can shave yourself before you go tho if there is a certain method or creme that will cause you not to get razor bumps.

When I got my forearm tattooed the artist used a straight edge razor to shave the hair and since only a small portion needed to be shaved he did not use any shaving cream. The type of razor is up to the artist, if you have a problem with razor bumps you may want to try the anti-bumping razors. I can not remember the name of them but they are in the men's section and designed for African Americans, or you could try an electric razor, those do not shave as close as regular razors and may help to prevent bumps. Also once your tattoo is finished you must let the surface skin heal before you can shave over it anywhere from two to four weeks. Good luck.

Are you kidding, that is the least of your worries. The needle going in and out of your skin is the thing you should worry about the most. But to answer the question the shop i go to just shaves you with a razor to get the hair off.

Most use disposable, cheapie razors.
It'll either be a dry shave, or he'll use the same green soap that he washes the tattoo with as he's doing it.
I've been tattooed all around the world, and have never had an artist that uses shaving cream.
Shave it yourself, about 5 minutes before you leave to go there--he won't need to re-shave it.

have you tried shaving 'with' the grain of hair instead of 'against' it? (downwards, not towards yourself) while you won't get a super close shave it will still look good and shouldn't leave you with bumps. I do this on my knees because im forever cutting them. Shave before you get the tattoo, and if the tattoo artist wants to shave more just explain the problem to him- it could cause a reaction with the ink. (allergic etc) Good luck! Leg tattoo's apparently hurt like anything! I got mine next to my hip bone and didn't feel a thing tho, and everyone said it'd hurt.

with tattoos the proffessional always shaved any parts that they will put the tattoos when there are hairs in that area they used throw away razor blades with me they dont used any cream
if you want tattoos done on you you can shave it your self and use any cream you want and it saves time for the tattoist to shave you

Of course they use cream silly.
But you should definitely shave it yourself beforehand, you don't want to go in there with chinchilla legs.
