STAY AWAY FROM GRACIE TORRANCE!!! Rorian Gracie is notorious for milking his students for money (he used to charge $400 a month for 2 times a week) and holding them back in their training. Many guys who have left Gracie Torrance and gone on to earn their black belts under other instructors have said as much. And we're talking names like Chris Brennan. I've heard stories of Rorian holding students from getting their blue belt for 6 years(!), long after they were ready to advance. I've heard stories about Royce telling students "don't let Rorian know I showed you this but..." before showing them a technique. Also consider that no one from Gracie Torrance outside of Rorian's sons and Royce have accomplished anything in either BJJ or MMA (that says to me the stories are true).

There should be several other places in the area to train as southern Cali is a hot bed of BJJ/MMA. Personally if you can I would recommend training with the Machado's. They are Gracie cousins and have produced some excellent grapplers in both BJJ and MMA. Good luck!!

The Gracie Academy is in Torrance. I wish I would have known about it when I lived there. I think the Machado's have a school in Redondo Beach, but I haven't lived there in years so it's hard to remember.

Just like KungFu said there is a Gracie academy. You are very lucky. I thought about driving there all the way from the inland empire but it was just too far.
