Not yet, but it sure as hell is getting there, give it 7 months.
Considering the advances in communications, front line medicine (we now have a gauze pad which uses differently charged attracting particles to bond with flesh and blood to stop clotting - think static electricity bandage), and weapon technology, combined with the enemy against us, (never mind the fact that only a true cold-hearted a s s hole would judge a bull s h i t military occupation such as this only in numbers of lives lost). Iraq casualties are very near to those of Iraq in corelation to time in-country. Think inverse inflation. Hey Steve, ever investigated into how many servicemen and women are blind or deaf or paraplegic? Or ALL three?! The people who survive to suffer are far more sad then those who perish in glory.
America has become a twisted empire, pushing it's will onto the world, not only militarily but socially, politically, and economically, our founding fathers would be physically sick if they were to witness the current state of the nation they strived, and died to create. Imagine the Britain they fought against, now look at the USA today.
That said support our servicemen and women, and get out and VOTE and help them.

The media makes it seem like that. Unfortunately in order to get the ratings they fail to report in an objective manner. We have seen very little reporting from the insurgent side except for the selective screenings done on AL jazeera.
The insurgents want the occupiers out. And what would happen after that? Civil war is my best guess and probably Sharia law sponsored by Iran. Would the people of Iraq be better off in a Taliban like government which hangs, maims and beheads its very on citizens for very trivial omissions? Wouldn't there be some major ethnic cleansing from the Shites and Sunni's? And would all international Islamic terrorist movements hang their weapons and march in the streets hand in hand with Christians, Jews and Muslims for world peace?
I think not. The harsh reality is that Iraq is a necessary evil and by quitting the world would not become a better world.
On the other hand I do not agree with those that gauge Vietnam vs Iraq by body count. Iraq is another Vietnam cause it is a political invention of disastrous proportions.
The Bush administration got it all wrong. Today we should have been discussing if Iran is another Vietnam and not Iraq. I understand the need to invade Afghanistan but Iraq was harmless and could have easily been thumped into shape through sanctions and political pressure from the saudis. Iran on the other hand has always and will always pose a threat to the free world.

No , iraq is worse, the USA are stuck in iraq there's no way out as in veitnam was, US economy has fallen in deficit and have many capitalist economies in competence, in vietnam times US had a great economy and was the only big factory in the world, in these days is better buy japanese, european or chinese. We dont know if the war'll become worse, the dead toll is similar to the dead toll in the early days of vietnam war but probably we're far fron the 1968 of the iraq war. The US of 2007 are less dinamic tha the US of the 60s just see the economic growth, a lame parody of those times.

only if it changes in to a small south east Asian nation covered in jungle and the people trying to over throw the legitimate government are actually Chinese supported Communists... then NO... in no way shape or form is Iraq the new Vietnam or in any way Vietnam.
Vietnam: nearly 3000 deaths in one month. Iraq: 3000 deaths in 4 years.
Vietnam: NVA were the regular army of a separate nation. Iraq: The forces involved are small insurgent cells with no actual direct government support.
Vietnam: 500000 approx troops Iraq:50000 approx troops
the only way this will be like Vietnam is if the US runs and the insurgents slaughter the civilian populace (which will happen)... Then it will resemble Vietnam.

It is not a matter of death toll..55.000 against 3.170 as of today. Iraq is becoming a VietNam because USA will never win a war fought by reular troops in one side and by guerrilla in the opposite side. A soldier can fight the enemy who is standing on front of him and eventually defeat him but how can he defeat an enemy that is placing bomb traps along the streets and attacks US forces with kamikazee? No way. US forces are paying a devastating tribute to a war that they will never win. Think about, the regular Iraq's Army was defeated in few months with minimum losses on US side, now, after three years the situation is stalling if not deteriorating for US Forces and the death toll is increasing drammatically. US lost the Nam war because of guerrilla...it is happening again.. and I am terribly sorry for those Brothers in Arms eventough I am not american.

It was Vietnam before the first troop arrived. It will be in full swing when we leave...nothing can stop it, no matter how long we stay there. We have ruined not only Iraq but much of the middle east by our presidents lust for oil and power.
When we leave, only the thugs will remain and they will start the wholesale slaughter of innocents. Want to know what it will be like? Rent and watch the movie "The Killing Fields".

Vietnam had massive enemies of the USA as border mates. China and Russia were at the High water mark of the Cold war. The Libs in America were trying to Impeach the President and have the troops removed by any means including surrender. Well somethings Have Not changed in that regard.

nicely, the Iraq withdrawl has not something to do with what Iran is doing. we could desire to end installation Iraq's gov't, then we could desire to stroll over to Iran, walk in, and depose the sadistic bastards working their united states of america. there is various information the final public of Iran needs to be rid of them, yet they are in a position to't topple them. And Iran might by no potential be a superpower, they might in simple terms be a nuclear in a position united states of america. It takes extra desirable than nuclear weapons to be a superpower. France and England have nukes and did in the process the chilly conflict, yet they have been by no potential seen great powers for the time of that factor.
