my cat is always talkative to begin with but she has this new thing where she will sit outside my door anywhere between 3am-5am and just meow to meow. at night i even began sticking her food bowl out in the hallway in case she's hungry. she never comes in and goes to the bathroom either when i open the door. but if i let her in at night she doesn't sleep. she always bounces around on me and plays. how can i get her to stop because it makes me extremely tired.

My cat went through this phase. You know, every cat is different so it is hard to say what is right. I don't think that you should spray it with a water bottle. Everytime the cat goes toward your room, it will associate the water with that and may not ever go in there again. I would leave my do opened or "cracked" so that the cat could get in there. Most cats get up and down at night. Try to play hard right before bed and make the cat tired. If the cat realizes that there is no need to get your attention at 4:00am, like the door being opened, then it might not keep trying to get your attention. Most of them do this just for the attention; whether it is good or bad..........if they're up, they want you up. If the cat gets into the bed and tries to start playing, just try to refrain from doing anything at all. I don't like to be awaken that early either, but if you push them away or your voice changes to a different tone, etc., then they could take this as you are ready to play too. This will make the cat be more eager to come to you. Just let the cat be able to get in, try to just lay there. If kitty realizes that no matter how much she tries to aggrevate, you're not budging, her attention will turn to something else.

For my cat Vegas the answer was to smother her with love. She would do the same thing - wanting to play at 4am, wanting in the bed, etc. When she did this I would hold her to me in a little kids hug. Not hurting her, just restraining her. She HATEs that. 2 or 3 nights of that and she has left me alone ever since.

Get a spray bottle, you can pick one up at most stores for a small price. Fill it with water and put the nozzle on stream. When kitty starts her early in the morning singing. Squirt her in the face. Cats hate water in their faces.

I have had to do this with my cat. It's gotten to the point where I just show her the bottle and she stops. Hope this helped!

Try to play with her and make her tired before you go to bed. My cat Dante used to do this to me all the time. He'd jump on the bed and lick my face and start meowing. I started to play with him before I went to sleep and eventually he quit doing it. Remember cats are nocturnal and a lot of the time they sleep during the day.
