Ask him to spell his name to you.
Write it down on a piece of paper.
Then put all the letters in his name in the corresponding numbers, ie: a=1 b=2 and so on.
Add up all the numbers then give him the total.

Then Say " Any one over 100 gets to take me out for coffee "

I have met some people that I had not seen for ages and forgotten their names.

I'd just smile and not ask but sometimes just have to. I'd ask how they spelt their name. ha ha

Good idea is introduce yourself again.

I would say "My name is Charles, may I ask you prefer to be called?"
