The year is divided into four seasons namely: Advent, lent, Easter and ordinary (ordinal). During advent, we prepare to celebrate the birth of Christ. The altar table cloth, the other vestments and the stole of the priest is violet. Here in the Philippines, we celebrate that through a nine-day simbang gabi (dawn mass) starting on the 16th of December. Christmas Day is a big celebration for all Catholics.
During Lenten season, we commemorate the passion, death and resurrection of Jesus. This season is started off with Ask Wednesday, where burned palm leaves of the previous Palm Sunday is used to mark a cross on the forehead by the priest and ministers saying, "repent and believe in the Gospel." Here, Catholics abstain from eating meat on Fridays and do corporal works of mercy. On Good Friday, Catholics do the Station of the Cross. Others do Pilgrimage to other churches or the so-called "Vicita Iglesia."
Resurrection of Jesus is the core of Catholic Faith. Alleluia is now being sung in the masses and other liturgical celebration.
This is just a tiny portion of the Catholic traditions and activities.
Catholics have also the ff:
Recollection and retreat
Patron Saint's Day.
Flores de Mayo
etc.
