Hello everyone

I am still thinking about whether to get a crown or not. I've been advised by my dentist to do so about a month ago since he diagnosed that I have a crack in my tooth. And the quote was $900!

Is he ripping me off? That sounds more or less outrageous. $900 for 60 minutes of scary dental work. I'd rather just pull the thing out for a $100! (or did that rig the price to be that $900 as well!?).

I'm beginning to think the whole dental industry is a bit like car mechanics. Except freakier.

Does this sound like a fair price for crowns? Has anyone had a crown done?

Thank you.

Most crowns do cost around $700-$900 plus any additional cost for a build up. Good dentistry costs money. You are not only paying for "60 minutes" of time with the dentist, but also paying for his dental assistant, the supplies that they use to prep the tooth for the crown, sterilization of the office and the lab bill to actually make the crown (unless they are making the crown in the office on the same day, then price of the crown will be higher).

Theres a chance that another dentist will give you a second oppinion for free, or give you a cheap exam, and that can give you a point of referrence, but that price sounds about right. Think of what a dentist has to go through to become a dentist. And thank goodness too becuase I wouldn't want anyone else working my mouth!

that is right. I paid 700 for mine and it is still sensitive after 2 months. I cracked my tooth also but now I wish I would have just had it pulled. If I was older I definately would have but I just dont want to start losing teeth right now, i'm only 26. Just think about having that hole where a tooth should be.

Sweetie, it depends where you are living. I reckon that is a fairly good price where I live, but if you are a Ugandan refugee in Zambia, then its a small fortune.
