I have been seriously thinking of taking God at his word.

Is this a good idea? Do I need to rely totally on God like this?

Psalm 34:8-10 assures us, “Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in him. Fear the LORD, you his saints, for those who fear him lack nothing. The lions may grow weak and hungry, but those who seek the LORD lack no good thing.”

I suggest you try to get a reasonable advance on your bills. Ask God to send you 3 or 6 month before you quit work.
As soon as He gets a minute away from his amputee healing sessions He will provide...

You must be saved and acknowledge Jesus as your saviour if you haven't already. Admit that you are a sinner and repent.

Mat 6:25 "If you decide for God, living a life of God-worship, it follows that you don't fuss about what's on the table at mealtimes or whether the clothes in your closet are in fashion. There is far more to your life than the food you put in your stomach, more to your outer appearance than the clothes you hang on your body.
Mat 6:26 Look at the birds, free and unfettered, not tied down to a job description, careless in the care of God. And you count far more to him than birds.
Mat 6:27 "Has anyone by fussing in front of the mirror ever gotten taller by so much as an inch?
Mat 6:28 All this time and money wasted on fashion--do you think it makes that much difference? Instead of looking at the fashions, walk out into the fields and look at the wildflowers. They never primp or shop,
Mat 6:29 but have you ever seen color and design quite like it? The ten best-dressed men and women in the country look shabby alongside them.
Mat 6:30 "If God gives such attention to the appearance of wildflowers--most of which are never even seen--don't you think he'll attend to you, take pride in you, do his best for you?
Mat 6:31 What I'm trying to do here is to get you to relax, to not be so preoccupied with getting, so you can respond to God's giving.
Mat 6:32 People who don't know God and the way he works fuss over these things, but you know both God and how he works.
Mat 6:33 Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don't worry about missing out. You'll find all your everyday human concerns will be met.
Mat 6:34 "Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don't get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes.

God Bless You!!!

In order to quit work and let god take care of you would have to live in the jungle and eat bananas all day. He's not going to pay your electric bill or your cable bill. Take a look at all the "uncivilized" tribes in the world...they "work" an average of 2 hours a day and yet they are some of the most well fed people on the planet. they get hungrey, they eat a yam or snare a rabbit. Maybe it is not God that they rely on, but they don't rely on themselves the way the rest of the human population does

There was a Christian man who fell overboard while on a sea cruse. after he hit the water he prayed "GOD save me!" Just about the same time his concentration was interrupted by the sound of a motor boat. The man waved the boat away saying that "GOD is going to save me" Again he prayed and harder this time "GOD SAVE ME!" after about 30 minutes a helicopter arrived and the man again waved it off saying "Its ok,, GOD is going to save me" Soon after this the man grew very tired and drowned. Then in a flash he was standing at the gates of Heaven looking at saint Peter. He yelled out angerly "WHERE WAS GOD WHEN I NEEDED HIM????" Peter looked back at him and broke out into laughter and said "GOD sent you a boat and a helicopter silly."
Sometimes that job we hate is the will of GOD. The good news is that even if we make the wrong decision GOD is still there on the throne.
Peace and Grace.

God Will Provide

A young woman brings home her fiance to meet her parents. After dinner, her mother tells her father to find out about the young man. The father invites the fiance to his study for a drink.

"So what are your plans?" the father asks the young man.

"I am a Torah (Bible) scholar." he replies.

"A Torah scholar. Hmmm," the father says. "Admirable, but what will you do to provide a nice house for my daughter to live in, as she's accustomed to?"

"I will study," the young man replies, "and God will provide for us."

"And how will you buy her a beautiful engagement ring, such as she deserves?" asks the father.

"I will concentrate on my studies," the young man replies, "God will provide for us."

"And children?" asks the father. "How will you support children?"

"Don't worry, sir, God will provide," replies the fiance.

The conversation proceeds like this, and each time the father questions, the young idealist insists that God will provide.

Later, the mother asks, "How did it go, Honey?" The father answers, "He has no job and no plans, but the good news is he thinks I'm God."

Where does it say that in the Bible?

Please be specific and cite the chapter and verse.

{edit} So the verse you have quoted, in your mind tells you to quit your job and wait for God to provide for you? Wow, interesting interpretation.

A little bit of a misquote there!!! God says He will provide, but He never says quit working. That is your "little addition" to the Bible, so it won't work.

The bible doesn't say to stop working. In fact, it says in the new testament that if someone doesn't want to work, then neither should he eat.
