Unless denied for a mortgage, you can't find out your credit score for free. You can get your credit report for free by going to the government's site at www.annualcreditreport.com (freecreditreport.com is EVIL!!! Not only does it put you into a free trial that ends up costing $$$ per month, but it also counts as an inquery onto your credit report and lowers your FICO score! If you want to purchase your score, go to one of the 3 credit bureaus and buy from them or buy the 3-in-one report which gives you all 3 scores and 3 credit reports.)

Since you've been refused credit, you can get a free credit report if you find out which one the credit card companies used. Odds are that you just haven't established credit yet and you don't even have a credit score.

hi
being refused a credit card doesn't necessarily mean you've got a bad credit score. it could simply be because you've got a low income or you haven't lived at your address long enough (usually min 3 yrs).
it could also be because you've already got a good bit of credit (or high value credit) already (loans, hire purchase, catalogues). or very simply the type of credit card you aplied for
you should also bear in mind the way in which you choose to apply ie over the phone/post and internet both have different minimum score values even if you apply with the same company for the same card. from what i've been told capital one has a more rigorously assess their internet applications compared to those by post. whatever bank/provider you choose there's usually an option to appeal/review but you would need to prove that you were able to manage financially (legitimately).

you are entitled to have a copy of your creidt report however you must pay for this. so far i know that prices range from £2 to £17 depending on how you request your report and if you require a credit score.

there are three major credit refernece agencies in the UK:
call credit
equifax
experian

they all have websites.
if you choose to have a statutory report (doesnt give your score) its £2 by post and £2.50 (equifax) over the phone. its also similarly price by the other two. over the internet equifax charges £17 for a report and score, experian charges £6 monthly and you can view your report anytime and £5 for score and offers a free 30 day trial. callcredit also offer a range of similar services but i've never used them before.

hope this helps

in the letter wherre you received your rejection
there should be a statement as to whick of the big three
were used to rate your credit

by refusing you credit - you are entitled to a copy of your
credit report FREE - this may or may not have the credit score on it

but you can at least see what you are up against

there are 1,750 calculations that into a credit score
times you are 30-60-90 days late on an account - 7 yrs worth
and 90 days 5 years ago is not as bad as 60 days in December

also - how long do you keep a job? stuff like that

best of luck

Cant be good then, not that that is necessarilly a bad thing. Myself and my girlfriend cannot get credit cards either, simply due to not being in debt after paying a large amount of debt off. Not saying its always easy to not have a credit card, but I counter that with the thought that I am not giving money to fat-cat, greedy executives intent on making the entire country debt riddled while they cruise around in the Bahama's on their boat.

Once a year, you can get one free credit report from each of the three major credit reporting agencies: Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion. For more information about this go to www.annualcreditreport.com.

Freecreditreport.com see what is holding you back, your debt to income ratio could be too high, same thing usta happen to me and I had good credit, just too much debt.
