I guess the answer to that has to be Maybe! Having been a club runner for 15 years my experience is that most injuries come to pass with the correct treatment & or rest.
Also one needs to understand as to whether the injury was caused by over use or biomechanical instability, or more than likely both! The chances are you probably need to ease of for a few weeks and contact a sports injury physiotherapist, often to be found through your local leisure centre - they usually charge around £30.00 - money well spent as they will give you some exercises to help stabilise your running gate.

Best of luck Pozzouk.

I got runners knee in the summer and I applied pressure and ice to it after every run by tying 2 socks around it. The problem went away and has never come back. However, I was doing 80 mile weeks from 50 mile weeks.. so the sudden change of mileage could have done it and my body just could have got used to it.

Reckon its one of those injuries that once you have you are prone too. Having said that there are things you can do - leg strengthening (or flexibility) exercices, checking you wearing the right shoes - or making sure they are new-ish and have support they did have! - and checking your not over-training - mine started with uppping the mileage too much and i now try and get off road as much as possible!
