sure, it may be nothing extraordinary between "designers." there are a lot of photoshop users even between "normal" users. but if you actually go out and ask random people, most of them are not familiar with photoshop even if they can use computer in general.
and i was wondering roughly how many percent of the regular people know the basics of photoshop, like understanding resolution, layers, basic tools, etc. i would say MUCH less than half of them.

(by the way, i'm NOT talking about the "technicians" that absolutely mastered photoshop, because i know there are VERY few of them in this world.)

i say about 2-5% properly know how to use photoshop.

there are so many things that photoshop allows you to do, it takes hours and hours to see what they do and apply it in real situations.
it's one of the few programs that have tutorials that don't help much.

If you just mean basic knowledge such as understanding resolution and layers and knowing how to use basic tools, I'd say more than you think, at least half. The interface of Photoshop is basically the same as most graphics programs out there. Furthermore, many of the tools are fairly intuitive or can be figured out by only a moment or two of experimenting.

I'd say no more than 1% of computer users know Photoshop to any functional degree.

I'd say maybe 2% can get photoshop to make a black box or a red circle.

When you pay that much for the program, I'm sure you would learn how to use it.
It's not a difficult application when compared to other graphic programs.

In my experience, Id say less than 1%.
People can say they know how to use it, but when we get files from them, they are useless.

RGB files, that print in 2 spot colors. Nope, cant be done!
72dpi images enlarged to poster sized. Nope, cant be done!
And look at the people who ask questions here.... How do I make a color photo black and white?? DUH!! If you have to ask a simple question like that, you wasted your money you freaking moron!!
