spy: Spanish or Chinese. Perhaps Korean if the north doesn't surrender soon. Maybe French

Businessman: Japanese or French

Video games: Japanese

Perfume: French

Teacher in school: French

French is useful, but there is big competition as it is a popular subject. Because it's popular to take, there's also a market for teaching it. Spanish has the biggest birth rate, followed by French, but many speakers of both languages are illiterate and speak creole anyway.

They're all of equal value. I'd say pick the culture you find most interesting, and then you'll be happiest with the job you get.

Chinese is my least favourite. One because there are different languages (including Cantonese), and it's not really one language. Two, because if the Mandarins stay in power and continue with the one child policy, the actual population of chinese speakers will fall drastically.

If you have no particular need for a second language (possible work, etc), then Chinese, of course!!

Chinese, like English is spoken by many people in so many countries......Chinese is almost like English. Those foreigners learning it here in China say it's actually not that hard to master this language...plus, the pronunciation, once started, is actually similar to English, as is the basic sentence structure.

A Canadian, I was surprised to learn that CHINESE (not French) is currently the second most spoken language in Canada, and right now THE MOST spoken language in Vancouver city!

Apparently there are over 1.3 billion speakers of English in the world, most of them speaking it as a second language! That means that English is now being 'moulded' more by those who speak it a s a second language than by those who speak it as their first language. While most of the over 1.3 billion people who now speak Chinese, and as their first language, live in China, that is soon likely to change!
I suspect that the business language of the world in the not too distant future will be a language composed mostly of Chinese and English!

i'd take chinese if you are in buisiness, spanish if you are going to be a emissary or a law enforcement officer, and japanese if you are going to deal in foreign computer parts. French and korean are only useful if you want to actually go to one of those places.

Another language you might consider is Iranian; they controll a large percentage of the world's oil and there is no indication of the demand getting smaller.

Hope this helps

Japanese, I can't tell you how many jobs I have seen go unfilled for months because there are no people who speak Japanese. As a rule, Asian languages are good for large businesses and technology. Small business- Spanish. Spanish is also the easy opt-out for language learners, it's not very hard to pick up.

What career are you planning to choose?
The language you need to major in, would depend on your inputs.
Chinese = Easy to score, because it is like drawing pictures. Soon, China and India will become the world's super rich countries.
Japanese= if you want to do business.
Spanish= if you want to speak the language spoken in most parts of the world, after English.
French= if you want to visit or live in France. they won't speak in any other tongue!
Korean= if you want to learn about the Nukes!
What's your choice??

Either of the Chinese languages or Japanese would be good for business but it really depends on what you want to do.

It depends on where you live or want to work. Personally, I find Spanish easier. You use most of the English letters, but Spanish has a few extra letters and most of the words are spelled the way they sound.

That depends on which career you want to pursue, really. There is no general "one size fits all". If in your career you are likely to be dealing mostly in commerce with the American continents, or if you are interested in being diplomat, then it's Spanish. If you are interested in Asia, it's Chinese. If you are planning on going into politics in Canada, it's French....
