Please don't. I know two guys sharing a house who took one on. First they fed it all the wrong food, and the landlord asked them to leave - so one guy asked his mother to take the dog for a week while they had the carpets cleaned. She had booked a holiday, and postponed that, but the weeks went on, my friend's housemate missed the dog, his mother hated being tied to the house and got mad at him. Then he sneaked it back in. He had an offer to study abroad. If he had a baby, sure, anyone would have offered to take care of it for a limited time. But not a huge scary dog. It went on for so long. He wound up renting with others. He doesn't like being in debt, but it's only for another twelve years, right? Anything to save the dog who was going to be killed humanely anyway. But it cost him so much, and he really did not plan this through. If he'd had an unplanned child, he could get a sitter and go away for weekends. It's so hard for him to take responsibility for a real dog. It would be hard for anyone.
