We have a distant relative who married his first cousin. This happened in the 1960's, and the family STILL talks about it. They had two children together, and while they still were invited to family gatherings, it was extremely awkward. I know the girls father didn't speak to either of them for years and years, although they did reconcile a few years before his death.

OK in the UK it is legal to marry your first cousin, it's not my thing, but it's legal, which means by law you can do it, so people who marry their first cousins are not committing a crime. It is illegal to marry your sister though, and I don't know anyone that has done that.

It is illegal in the usa to marry your sister however in many states you can marry your cousin. I personally think it is disgusting!

well, I think you need to know something, USA law does not allow first cousin to marry another first cousin due to geneitic disease generation.
but you are allowed to marry second generation cousin

Marrying your brother or sister would be completely sick & twisted. It is however exceptable in many cultures & societies to marry your counsin.
