I'm trying to alphabetize by day and date in the same column.  When I try to put it in
order, it puts in alphabetical order and not
in order by the date consisted with the day.

If the dates are in Excel 'Date format', then you can sort (if that is what you mean by alphabetize).

But if the dates are Excel 'String' format, then they are unsortable. If this is the case, try this. The purpose is to make the dates sortable.

Use data/text to column wizard
select 'delimited' radio buttons, click next
click the 'space' check box, click next
Your column is now split into 2, day of week in left column, date on right column
select left 'date' column
for column data format, select 'date' radio button
choose the type, if the date is original in month, date, year order select 'mdy'
click finish
Select the 'Date column'
Select format/cells/custom
type 'ddd mm/dd/yyyy"

You may now sort ..er alphabetize..the dates

Are you trying to alphabetize? Or really sorting out the entries by day or date? Are these entries (day and date) in one column only or in separate columns?

If you are trying to alphabetize or sort out these, highlight the entries that you need to sort. On the top-most menu, hit DATA, then SORT, then choose from the options. (Sort by: ascending, descending, etc.) If the entries are in one column only, it will sort by the Day. If the entries (day and date) are in two different columns, you can whichever you need to be on top.
