Before I start, let me just say I'm reffering to those who are, I did not mean to generalize, I simply meaning it to those who are, alright?

So, why do everyone assume everyone is a Christian? When I ask something about God, the Christians say "our God Jesus Christ" while I'm popular enough for everyone here to know that I'm a muslim(I'm so full of myself, I know.).

And then when I ask atheists philisophical questions regarding God and a higher power, even they assume I'm a Christian, which is getting really annoying.

So, here's a honest question, why do everyone assume everyone is a Christian?

Oh and one more, I was asking a stupid question about God and suddenly there was this Muslim who came to me and preached about Islam, dude, I'm a muslim myself!

All of these reason had led me to say everyone is assuming everyone is a Christian o_O

I have run into this often as well. For some reason Christians think they have a trademark on the word "God." They assume that when you use the word "God" you are automatically talking about the Christian God. I have tried to use other phrases like higher power or higher being to avoid the confusion, but somehow I don't think I should have to.

I do not assume this, but I am not a Christian. I would say that since the majority of people on here are Christian, people assume that is the case. It is an oversight. People should not assume in day-to-day life that everyone is Christian and/or has to follow it or place it above their own religion.

I do not condone the repeated attempts on the part of the Christian community to convert everyone--especially secularists, Muslims and Jews. These people have religions and/or are not interested at that time. One must not target groups, become pushy, go door-to-door and send missionaries to Africa in order to convert large numbers of people in mass ceremonies.

For the most part, it is because most people in the United States are Christian, and they tend to assume things in their mental framework.
I get frustrated with the same thing sometimes, but I try not to be intolerant, because if I am, I am no better than they are at times.

I am a spiritual vagabond, I'm not even sure about any higher power - I just try to understand my relationship with/to it.

You're posting on a site which is based in the United States. We are part of Western civilization, and the major religion in Western civ is Christianity. I'm sure all of us know it's not the only religion out there, but culturally it's the first one to come to mind most of the time.

Probably because in this country 82% of the persons are Christian, so folks are making a logical assumption.

Yes, it is. 82% of Americans belong to a Christian denomination. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Christian_denominations_by_number_of_members

It's much easier to make banket statements then to have to think and treat people as individuals. And more antagonistic.

stop complaining.
if you don't want to be assumed as a Christian, then all you have to do is CLEARLY state your religion. it's not that hard.

ie: I AM A MUSLIM. or I AM JEWISH. or I AM HINDU. or I AM [whatever].
