You have not got the picture exactly right.
First, no Christians are dying for Israel.
Second, "The Arabs themselves cannot be considered but temporary residents. They pitched their tents in its grazing fields or built their places of refuge in its ruined cities. They created nothing in it. Since they were strangers to the land, they never became its masters. The desert wind that brought them hither could one day carry them away without their leaving behind them any sign of their passage through it".
- Comments by Christians concerning the Arabs in Palestine in the 1800s
Third, before the days of Muhammad, Christian conquerors had occupied Jerusalem (within the Byzantine Empire). Bringing one's religion into battle demonstrated that both their armies and their religion were superior to those of their victims when they won. So, they usually built their holy places on top of their victims' holy places, which they did on the Temple Mount, to absorb the strength of their conquered adversaries and to convert them to their religion. Even under the threat of the sword, the Jews refused to convert and allow their lineage to be absorbed, which would in effect, transfer G§d's Covenant.
Muhammad died in 632 c.e. Jerusalem was subsequently captured from the Romans by caliph Omar, six years after Muhammad's death. There was a struggle over who would assume Muhammad's role as leader of the new religion of Islam which he had envisioned.

In the Old Testament, God promises to bless those who bless Israel, and curse those who curse Israel.
While christians do have some different beliefs from Judaism, we do believe that God still has a plan for Israel. We still believe that the nation of Israel and its people are set apart, and will serve a purpose when Christ returns.
Specifically, most christians believe that after the rapture the Jews will accept christ as messiah, and will be the believers that are left in the world to try and win as many people as possible before the end.
The fate of Israel and that of Christianity is completely intertwined, and has absolutely nothing to do with Islam as someone else had said.
Edit: The guy under me is quite wrong. Muslims do not accept Jesus as Messiah at all. They accept him as a prophet, but claim his teachings in the bible to be misconstrued.

Peace be unto you, And the truth shall make you free.
The Promised Land is not of this world it is in heaven, Lord God told Abraham that he would inherit the Promised Land, but Abraham was a preacher of Lord God's word. Because Abraham knew Lord God (Jesus) he also was aware the the Promised Land was not of this earth. Isaac and Jacob also knew that the Promised Land was not of this earth.
They as well as Jacob's sons preached the word of God to all, and the Canaanites believed.
It was not until Moses bowed down and worshiped Satan did the Promised Land become earthly.
The 10 lost tribes are the inhabitants of the Europe and the New world. England was the first beast, the United States was the second beast and they gave power to Israel and the dragon.
And they make war with the LAMB. The 10th President of the United States shall fall to Gog and Magog. The 10th President of the U.S. shall take office in January 2009

There are some who hold to the belief that the re-building of the temple in Israel will signal the second coming of Christ. That is why you see a great deal of support for preserving Israel as a state.

I am a non-Christian who accepts and likes Israel. I wish for an end to the ongoing conflict but expect Palestinians to be reasonable about their demands, including abandonment of the 'right of return' clause and compromises on control of airspace and Jerusalem.

who are those Christians that die for Israel in the middle east, do you mean soldiers in Iraq, I thought they are fighting because of 9/11 which has nothing to do with Israel, and has a lot to do with the desire of Muslims to destroy the west.

If "dieing" is anything like dying, then you are not accurate.
No Christians are dying for Israel. Unless you count the Palestinian Christians who have been subjected to terror by the Muslim terrorists.
