$102, 900, 000 Australian dollars in total.
The opera house was originally estimated to cost $7 million dollars. An appeal fund was set up by Joseph Cahill, the Premier back then, to to raise money for the building. The original appeal fund raised about $900,000. When it became obvious that the fund would not be able to rasie enough, even for the first estimated cost Mr Cahill introduced the Opera House Lotteries. The rest of the $102 million that the Opera House ended up costing came from the profits of the lottery. The building was completely paid for by July 1975.
