Mental abuse (saying cruel and hateful things)
Sexual abuse (self explanatory)
and Physical abuse (beating, hitting etc)
If a parent truly overworks a child with physical labor, that would fall into the physical abuse category.

It would actually depend on if it was child labor. Does the housework take the place of the affection needed by a parent, does it affect the child's schoolwork, does it affect the self-esteem of that child, does it affect their personal life?
I honestly believe that in some cases, yes it can be a form of child abuse. Making a child believe that the only thing they are good for is to be a maid in someone's house- that is a form of mental and emotional abuse.
It would be hard to prove in court, but there are so many ways of getting around that and corroborating a child's testimony. You would have to prove that the information provided is credible and reliable, and then corroborate it with evidence proving that this is harming the child.
Find a way to prove to the State Police, to the court system, to the prosecutor that this is harming the child, and that the child would be better off in a different home.

Basically there are five classifications:
1) Emotional abuse - alter the way you feel
2) Physical abuse - injures you physically
3) Sexual abuse - inappropriate sexual interaction
4) Neglect - not providing the necessary things
5) Mental abuse - altering the way you think

Treating your child (or any child) as a slave would be a combination of a few of these!

there is mental, emotional, physical, sexual

all other abuses like isolation, brain washing and such fall into one or more of these categories.

Not providing a shelter or survival for kids is physical. Making them do all their own survival basics like house work can be abuse depending on how far it goes. My daughter is only 7 and works alot around the housel. She likes to earn money and will sweep, mop, carry in groeceries and such. Not all the time, but she will for allowance. One thing that schocked me was that we were painting and she was so motivated, she painted almost her whole room one coat by herself. Some kids like the allowance or having a project done (like getting a new bedroom color).. but to MAKE the kids do ALL the work, is not right

I don't think that there is anything wrong w/ kids having chores. But I do think that it is cruel to have them be a "slave" and do everything while no one in the house does crap. I guess you could look at it like a sort of abuse. I just don't think that it's punishable.

Sexual, physical and emotional abuse.
Making a child do all the chores would cover physical and emotional abuse.
Do your own chores.

haha. are you one of my children and up past your bed time?

my kids think there are "unfair child labor violations" going on at my home. WOW. the 18 year old and the 17 year old have to take turns doing dishes IN THE DISH WASHER and doing laundry. here's the drill:
monday, wed, friday dishes for 17 year old
tue, thur, sunday dishes for the 18 year old
monday, wed, fri fold one load of laundry and wash one 18 year old
tue, thur, sunday fold one load of laundry, wash one 17 year old

WOW, that's tough. that's ALL I EXPECT other than the occassional "take out the trash". in return i bought them both VERY NICE cars AND i pay their car insurances' (if their grades are NOTHING lower than a C)
and i prepare their meals everyday. i pay for all of their needs and most of their wants... CALL THE LABOR BOARD and find out if i'm cruel. i tell the boys that after they report me they will hear laughing from the other end of the line before the dial tone chimes in.

Do you mean all of them and you do none of them? working kids like a dog, yes, I think that's emotional and physical abuse if you have the time to do them.
