MATTER: The Other Name for Illusion
What is explained in this book is an important truth, which has surprised many and changed their perspectives on life. This truth can be summarized as follows: "All events and objects that we encounter in real life-buildings, people, cities, cars, places-in fact, everything we see, hold, touch, smell, taste and hear-come into existence as visions and feelings in our brains".
We are taught to think that these images and feelings are caused by a solid world outside of our brains, where material things exist. However, in reality we never see real existing materials and we never touch real materials. In other words, every material entity which we believe exists in our lives, is, in fact, only a vision which is created in our brains.
This is not a philosophical speculation. It is an empirical fact that has been proven by modern science. Today, any scientist who is a specialist in medicine, biology, neurology or any other field related to brain research would say, when asked how and where we see the world, that we see the whole world in the vision center located in our brains.
This fact has been scientifically proven in the twentieth century, and although it may seem surprising, it necessarily implies answers to two questions; "If our lives are visions created in our brains, then who is it that creates these visions? And who is it that sees these visions in our brains without having eyes and enjoys them, gets excited and happy?" You will find the answers to these two important questions in this book.

I don't. I think people (a) find signs in selective things and ignore signs that they aren't actually looking for (meaning that people conciously look for signs and it's pretty easy to find an arbitrary sign when you are looking for one) or (b) people retrospectively attribute the designation of "a sign" to events, etc. in order to understand things.
I personally just think that people find the signs that they are looking for. As in, they selectively find signs. If, for example, I think I might be pregnant, of course I will be more aware of babies, or perhaps a commercial for a pregnancy test. Many people will then say, oh it's a sign. I don't think so. I think people's minds focus on something and they just selectively find things in their surroundings which either support or negate it.
As for the select option, retrospective application, I'll use the same example. Perhaps, I find out that I am three months pregnant, just by a routine doctor's visit. Then some people will retrospectively apply past events and such, deeming them to be signs that they were pregnant. Like, "Oh, I saw that pregnancy test commercial on TV four times last week. That was a sign." That, my friend, is just retrospective attribution. Not a sign!

If events or lack of events have ever guided me in any sense, i have to tell you they were not signs, probably should be called phenomenon, or simply events. If so, yes, I have been always constantly observing events, big or small, since I reached a certain age, although I tended to ignore them when i was younger.

yes, I believe that God guides us sometimes by circumstances and events that some people would call "signs." And no, I do not think that they are all "just a state of mind" - I believe He really does actively lead us and guide us in these ways at times.

Events happen and do sometimes change the way you are heading but I wouldn't call them signs. It is probably a state of mind.
I believe in God and know he answers our prayers this may be construed as a sign.

Sure! Pain in the chest and left arm are a sign you might be having a heart attack. Birds all flying low and fast is a sign it might storm. There's tons of signs, just none of them are supernatural or guided by "fate", which doesn't exist.
