At 93 human skin & related sores often become a problem as the overall system often fails to respond. Visiting a derm may be useful or else try ayurvedic medicine which used to be used by ancient sages.

You really have to release the lactic acid from the muscles which I'm afraid will take movement. The thing I would do is suffer through a short run before the game or a couple of sets of body weight squats. It's gonna hurt a bit at first but it will help.

Best get medical treatment from a doctor. There may be complications preventing the sore from healing, such as diabetes.

a sore that won't heal on a 93 year old is not something to mess around with. get him to a doctor. it could be a pressure ulcer and will only get worse if not treated. they will put a duoderm patch over it and give him antibiotics.
