my house is totally vinyl sided, except for the foundation. it was already done when i bought it, so i dont know about the cost. But I used to live in a wood sided house, and the painting was so time consuming and expensive. I really like the vinyl, it has a great look to it, and it was put over top of some very ugly stucco. The house is 100 years old and the siding makes it look fresh and clean. I didnt like the color of the vinyl ( it was pale yellow) so I painted it a tan color, and did the trim in ivory and the shutters and front door are brick red. Painting the vinyl is very easy, there are lots of good paints available that are made especially for vinyl siding. I painted 3 years ago, and still looks great, no chips or flaking at all (I live in a very cold winter and hot summer climate). Just make sure that if you paint, you dont paint a color that is too much darker than the original color because the darker color would absorb more heat from the sun and cause warping. The vinyl is very easy to clean, I just hose it down a few times a year and it looks brand new. Other than that it is completely maintenance free.

I have vinyl siding on my house and the pros are that it is maintenance free and that it is flexible, during a recent hail storm I had no damage compared to my neighbors ,because thevinyl was flexifle enough to take the hit and not dent, the cons are that yoiu get seasonal gaps at the joints , itn is merely a cosmetic issue as it appears like it is loose in some spots, another thing to watch is if you do go with vinyl choose a very reputable company to install it there are a lot of fly by night outfits in the siding business and it is easy to do a poor job and walk away , so be sure the gaurentee the work,as a bad install wiil give you interior leaks via poorly installed j channels....my hous which is a 3000 sq ft 2 story walkout cost about 35 thousand to have sided.

We just bought a house that is 75% vinyl siding and 25% stucco. I'd say my biggest issue is that since it is flexible, you cannot paint it so choose your color wisely! I tried to locate some spare siding material so I could patch some holes but it was impossible. All of the people I spoke to said it was very expensive but it would last many years. I ended up using white vinyl flashing and a heat gun to mold it into shape. Good Luck.

I am so glad I saved the money and bought siding for our new house many years ago. I knew that by the time it needed new paint, my husband would be older and his job is extremely demanding. It has been more than 15 years and still looks new.
Buy only from a reputable dealer that has been in business in your city for many years and get a guarantee for the installation. There are many scammers involved in the siding business so be wise.

When all the lights are out inside your house during a lighting storm, its just so darn great to watch the lighting bolts jumping off your house after its hit more than a few times in a roll.
