apparently many of you know nothing about welfare (used to work there ) they have rules here is Washington state you can only get it if
you go though there work first program you have to have a job by your 2nd month on it (if no job you get kicked off )
you can only get it for 5 years of your life
you can only have 4 kids on it and you get less than $1000 a month for mother and 4 kids
and we are the most relaxed state in the us for welfare many other states have much tougher rules look it up before you think you know everything about a topic and pass judgment on others
you have the Internet look it up for your state and if you really believe you know someone who is abusing the system report them if it is true they will get kicked off and have to pay it back

I personally think that after having 2 or more kids by 2 different dads you should have to have your tubes tied if you are unmarried. I mean everyone makes a mistake and could possibly remarry and have more kids.
I personally know someone who has 5 kids by 4 different men and they are a stripper and since they are an "independent contractor" and no one knows exactly how much they make, they don't file taxes. They make great money dancing and get child support from 4 men and get food stamps. She drives a brand new BMW and doesn't have her tubes tied yet. I think that is awful that people like that can live the way they do. I am a full time college student, my dad fought in Vietnam and is now disabled, my mother is a hair dresser in a small town, and I have a mentally retarded brother. My family doesn't get any kind of assistance. I don't get any kind of government insurance or any assistance in college. I am unmarried and have no children and I make good grades in school. Society is beginning to give rewards to people who have made bad choices in their life.

I wouldn't want to have so many kids just to get about $150 bucks a month in welfare for one kid. There is no way i would do it but welfare is not like it use to be.
Nowadays you have to work to get welfare after a certain amount of time.
I know people that are on welfare or was on welfare and their kids turned out good. That has nothing to do with welfare.
I think people that keep on having kids that cannot afford them should have their tubes tied but you can't force them to do so.

They changed the laws- now they don't get more money for each child above 2 (they used to give money for each child). They can still get WIC, but that's it.
While I do not support the welfare state, I do not think they should be forced to have sterilization- their reproductive choices are their choice. They should stop getting money, but nobody should be forced to have their tubes tied (sounds a bit too much like the Holocaust with the whole forced sterilization) .

this beahviour is not as common as some people would think, i actually believe that the 'mum' should only get paid for the number of children she has when she goes on to welfare, whether she be an unpartnered or widowed or divorced woman. any future children should not result in extra payments, if you in a relationship that results in a pregnancy, then the dad should support that child

"Officially it is hard to prove..."
Because it's a myth, maybe?
Try cracking some books on the topic.
For a start:
http://www.amazon.com/Rachel-Her-Children-Homeless-Families/dp/0449903397
http://www.amazon.com/When-Work-Disappears-World-Urban/dp/0679724176/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/102-4899696-0099337?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1173170045&sr=1-1
Spewing off about something in a manner designed to only foster, well, hate, does not make you a more productive member of society than a parent on welfare.
Might I assume you're American? (Thank you.) Have you even looked at your country's shameful welfare rates? That alone should convince you that nobody's breeding because they're paid to do it.
And it's not the mothers who don't care about the education of poor children; it's your own country. Viz:
http://www.amazon.com/Shame-Nation-Restoration-Apartheid-Schooling/dp/1400052459/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/102-4899696-0099337?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1173169826&sr=1-1
Note, too, that 'non-punitive' aid -- to wit, welfare people can actually live off of, good social supports, education, etc -- has a much better track record when it comes to getting people off the system.
Edited to add: Awfully nice sentiments coming from the other answerers. Really, living in a rich country where kids go hungry, aren't you ashamed rather than angry? Or, rather, angry in a different fashion?

i know someone who does this. it's sick! some states give extra money for each child u have. it's the system that is enabling this. they cant make it like forcing someone to tie the tubes but they can cut off funding at a limit of kids.

something needs to be done about this situation!!!!! Records should be looked at and, after a second child, the mother must be made to go out and work so she can learn the value of making money and pass the sense of responsibility on to her kids!

Nevermind having their tubes tied, just remove them altogether!
I work in a newborn icu and the number of repeat offenders that come through, continuously churning out babies to get the $4000 baby bonus makes me sick! I think there should be some kind of court order in place, so that junkie/slacker mothers who repeatedly have kids just for the money should be sterilised. Sorry, but sick of seeing them in my line of work!

I don't think we shouldn't tie their tubes, but i feel if you are on government assistance (because you can't take care of the children you already have) and you get pregnant you should get permanently kicked off welfare, then maybe they would remember to go plan parenthood and get their birth control.
