The church rules are based on the bible.
Many Catholics go to church every day.
Ash Wednesday (Lent) represents the 40 days Christ spent in the desert, which in turn, represents the 40 years that Moses and the people of Israel spent in the desert.

Sunday mass is a celebration of the life, death and resurrection of Christ. Nice eh? "Do this in memory of me." So, we did.

The bible has many prayers in it. Read the book of Psalms lately?

Too bad about the birth control. I wonder why so many women now a days have breast cancer? The church doesn't promote fornication however. That is plain ludicrous.

The Pope is the head of the church on earth. In the same way, there are rulers of countries, heads of corporations, presidents of other organizations.

Question for you:
Are you asking about ALL Catholics or just the ones who just go through the motions. There's tremendous apostasy within those who call themselves Catholic, and there's tremendous faith within others who live up to their calling.

If someone came to YOUR church only on Sundays (or better yet, only on Christmas and Easter), then went out drinking and screwing, are they still members of your church? Absolutely, but they're pretty lousy about it.

Don't judge the entirety of Catholicism by those who least uphold its creed.

Your point about the Bible telling how to pray is irrelevant - if the Mass is the ONLY prayer a Catholic says during the week, he's really not being a good Catholic - we're called to pray constantly and the faithful KNOW this.

Your point about the girl is interesting - she only half-listened to the admonition about sex. If you read any of John Paul 2's writings about sexuality (and I can't think of anything in them that a Christian of any stripe would disagree with), you'd recognize that he admonished Catholics to be chaste until marriage, and celebrate sex as a gift from God that allows life to be brought into the world. Shame that the girl missed the other half - she wouldn't be having a child out of wedlock.

And NO ONE in the Catholic church ever said it was okay to fornicate. That goes against 2,000 years of understanding.

And the Pope doesn't have control over the heavens, no one claims that. Our understanding of Jesus' giving Peter (and hence the Papacy) the keys to the Kingdom is limited to administering His (Jesus) forgiveness of sin to those who are penitent and accept the Lord's gift of salvation, which prevents people from deluding themselves into a false sense of penitence, which is ultimately a rejection of the Lord.

If you're going to ask about Catholic Church rules (Canon Law - as in, from the Canon of Scripture known as the Bible), make sure you understand what the Canon Law is, not what those who don't understand it claim it to be.

I'd be happy to answer your questions via email, but I have no time for diatribe.

Because they have been told to do so. The place that they give the Holy Spirit is minimal. The Holy Spirit is the spirit of truth. The Roman Catholic Church is more a political institution than a religious one. If Catholics begin to have more contact with the Holy Spirit, they will begin to see the correct way of worshiping God.

The pregnant girl told you that fornication is not banned by the Catholic Church and you believed her?

Clearly, the Bible indicates that Jesus founded only One Church, and Jesus: (a) founded his Church on Peter alone (Mt 16:18, Lk 6:46 49); (b) gave the Keys of the Kingdom of Heaven to Peter alone (Mt 16:19); (c) said "Feed my lambs . . . tend my sheep . . . feed my sheep" to Peter alone (Jn 21:15 17).

When a Catholic obeys the laws of the Catholic Church, he or she is obeying the laws of an institution left by jesus Christ to lead His people.

One cannot have God for his Father, who will not have the Church for his Mother, and likewise, one cannot have the Word of God for his faith who will not have the Church for his teacher. It is the infallible teaching authority of the Church, as promised by Christ, which alone preserves God's Word from erroneous interpretation.

More Catholic bashing. Getting quite tired of it.

Catholics believe their leaders are their gods voice on earth.

Now please stop.

Btw, thats a request from someone that has a distinct and obvious dislike of Christianity as a whole.
