I'm sorry your friend is going through so much. Lupus is an autoimmune disorder. She needs to look for a doctor who specializes in that field. One of the best books on the subject is "Living Well With Autoimmune Disease" by Mary Shomon. There's also a web site that goes with the book and has great information. Take a look at http://www.autoimmunebook.com/. Best wishes to you and your friend. It's great that you're looking out for her!

Hi, I have Lupus and was diagnosed in 1991, I've found that over the counter non steroidal agents like Ibuprofen work well for my joint pains and for the inflammation of Lupus. Just be aware that your wife should check with her primary care doctor before she takes medication. The doctor may have another opinion or want her to abstain from taking anything to avoid clouding any diagnosis issue there may be. And I'd like to share with you, that although lab results may be positive, she still may not have Lupus. I'm sure that she will need to see a Rheumatologist or specialist to rule out any other possible causes of those particular complaints and to come to a conclusion about any lab tests she may have had. Lupus, in most cases can be safely treated and managed, so "chin up young man" and be a supportive and loving shoulder to lean on, for the sake of your wife and your marriage. Good luck.

There really is no end to the prescribing and medications, you will find as one situation is medicated, another one will pop up, and they will give you another prescription for that issue. The very best she could do is try to go to a naturopathic Dr. that will look at the issue from a whole body stand point rather than a symptom stand point. Doctors prescribe for symptoms with out first trying to find the under lining issue. There are two sites I would suggest to you, they are as followed:
http://www.ghchealth.com/ - this link is a reputable company, they take calls about general health, and they will try to help you.

http://www.naturopathic.org/
this site will help you find a Natropath in your area.

This is a scary thing to deal with, I understand what you are going through as I have two friends with similar issues as yours! I have been all natural for over 3 years, I cant remember the last time I got sick. The world is turning around and starting to see that the BEST way to deal with your health issues, is all natural.
I send you positive energy, take care and good luck!

by the way, there is a solution, see a Natropath in your area and I am sure they can help you!

My son is 13 and was diagnosed with Lupus (Rhumatoid). The disease attacks the joints in his knees and he can barely walk at times.

Although there is no known cure for Lupus, there are new technologies being introduced in the medical field all the time. Being a good friend is of more value to her than all the medication. They may come out with a medication that will treat the symptoms and give her a normal life in the future. Keep praying for her. The power of prayer is underestimated.

Lupus is a really complicated illness, with remissions (no illness) and exacerbations (sick times). It is not uncommon for people to be on several meds at once. It is usually treated by a rheumatologist, and if your friend is having a rough time, just try and be supportive. Often during the sick times she may need a lot of treatment. The major organs of the body can be affected, so yes, she needs the meds---and lots of doctor visits. I am glad her doctors are treating her for depression, as she may well need it. Lots of luck to her---

It kind of sounds like shingles, characterized by pain around your midsection, rashes there as well. It's similar to chicken pox virus. What i'm reading say's that it is thought to be brought on when the immune system is weakened by age, stress, the flu, or certain immune-impairing drugs or illnesses. good luck :)
