Good morning - buenos días

Good afternoon - buenas tardes

Good evening - buenas noches.

I have noticed that 2 of the answers given previously to mine have incorrectly given the form "buenOs noches"; the form "buenAs" is required with both "tardes" and "noches", which are both feminine nouns, whilst "días" (despite the ending in "a") is a masculine noun, hence the form "buenOs".

In Spain, "buenos días" seems to be used for most of the day, with "buenas tardes" kicking in at about 4 or 5 pm, but I have noticed that Spaniards living in the UK tend to conform to usage in the UK, I suspect because of the earlier mealtimes in this country. "Buenas noches" is used as a greeting, "good evening" after dark, but it also means "good night" and is said on leaving or going to bed.

I have also noticed that many South Americans, especially from Argentina, say "buen día" instead of "buenos días" for "good morning".
