From the Greek text John1:1-2.
In origin was the saying and the saying was toward the God and God was the saying this was in origin toward the God.
God has no origin. So the statement "Jesus was here before his birth" does not come from these two verses. God made humans (Adam and Eve) a promise that he would send a redeemer and Jesus is the fulfillment of that promise. The word made fresh.
You may have a argument that Jesus as part of the Holy Trinity existed before he was born.

Since Christ is the second person of the Trinity, thus God, then yes it is correct that Christ has always existed in the eternal now.
See also:
Joh 8:58: Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am."
Or
Mar 14:61 But he remained silent and made no answer. Again the high priest asked him, "Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?"
Mar 14:62 And Jesus said, "I am, and you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of Power, and coming with the clouds of heaven."
Mar 14:63 And the high priest tore his garments and said, "What further witnesses do we need?
Mar 14:64 You have heard his blasphemy. What is your decision?" And they all condemned him as deserving death.
As you can see, the high priest fully understood that Jesus was claiming that He was in fact God. Some knowledge of the original Greek is warranted here, particularly the term, "Son the blessed". But there is no doubt that Christ was claiming to be God. The Jews hearing his claim understood exactly what He was saying and planned to stone Him.

Funny, I've heard of people using these verses to prove a position of preexistence for Jesus, but I haven't seen it yet.
Well, in a nutshell, the Word, is just that, what is God's Word, well, when God speaks, it happens, for example, when He said, 'Let there be Light." - and there was. The Word is God's manifested power- in other words, the Holy Spirit.
I think it is true, however, that when God began creation, He already knew everything, that there would be a need for Jesus, but He didn't create Jesus until His earthly birth.
SOME other people believe that and it is incorrect.

Yup, I sure did. He has always been. Great scripture there. Now, i have one for you. Did you know that Jesus was not a newborn baby living in a manger any longer, by the time the wise men found him, but was living in a house ? He was 2 years old and that was why Herod had all the kids under two killed.
Matthew 2L11And when they were come into the HOUSE, they saw the YOUNG CHILD with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshiped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense and myrrh.
This is why we should always read the bible for ourselves and not trust others to tell us what it is about. Rely on the comforter to translate it for you. God bless!

If you are saying that Jesus existed in heaven before he came to earth, then , yes, he sure did. He was the "first-born of all creation...everyting else was created through him and for him. You are right that he was with God when the earth was created and when Adam and Eve were created. He is not God, but he was with God...
Proverbs 8:22-31: "Jehovah himself produced me as the beginning of his way, the earliest of his achievements of long ago. 23Â From time indefinite I was installed, from the start, from times earlier than the earth. 24Â When there were no watery deeps I was brought forth as with labor pains, when there were no springs heavily charged with water. 25Â Before the mountains themselves had been settled down, ahead of the hills, I was brought forth as with labor pains, 26Â when as yet he had not made the earth and the open spaces and the first part of the dust masses of the productive land. 27Â When he prepared the heavens I was there; when he decreed a circle upon the face of the watery deep, 28Â when he made firm the cloud masses above, when he caused the fountains of the watery deep to be strong, 29Â when he set for the sea his decree that the waters themselves should not pass beyond his order, when he decreed the foundations of the earth, 30Â then I came to be beside him as a master worker, and I came to be the one he was specially fond of day by day, I being glad before him all the time, 31Â being glad at the productive land of his earth, and the things I was fond of were with the sons of men."
Here he is even calling himself "a master worker" being beside his Father, Jehovah, as his helper...and I love that it says: "the things I was fond of were the sons of man" !!!!! How awesome that he cared about us way before he came to earth to gain the opportunity for us to be reconciled to Gods and to receive everlasting life!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, it is great. He was God's spoken word even back in the garden. Always here. I remember when I had that revelation brought to my attention about 12 years ago. Wonderful that you have learned also.

You talk about Jesus as if were some separate being. Jesus is God in a body, so of course he was here.
